If there are cats in heaven Ed is getting mobbed, and if there aren't it isn't heaven anyway.

I salute Ed (Reply to this comment)

I've been away from Epinions for a very long time and was browsing old friends. It was with great sorrow that I read of his death.

Ed was a man of wit, a fellow cat lover, a man skilled with words, but most of all he was a good man. He will be missed.

I had no idea Ed had passed (Reply to this comment)

We wrote to each other and the last communication I had from him was that he was going to a hospice around the end of the year, if memory serves me.

I am saddened to learn of his passing, but glad the most difficult days of cancer passed quickly.

Thanks for the update,
Carol

Of course there are cats in heaven, as well as dogs, bunnies and all manner of wondrous creatures. The only once-living thing in short supply there is people, since so few of us deserve to go. Still, I feel sure Ed Grover will be there. I'll ask my furry companions to say Hi to him when their turn comes, just in case I don't make it myself. Just in case...

I am glad his suffering has passed, but I feel really sad right now. I'm sorry.

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to read this. I am happy that Ed is now at peace and with his maker.

He will be sadly missed by us all.

Blowing you kisses Ed. You had better catch them.

Our community will be all the less for the loss of Ed. He was fun, sympathetic and always supportive. Damn. I wish I could say something useful here, but I can't right now. -- Telynor

I was just thinking of Ed today and wondered how he was doing, then tonight I saw ifif's short bio dedicated to him and came here. I'm just glad he wasn't in much pain for long. He was a gentle soul and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Thanks, WW, for your update.

A gentleman and a scholar (Reply to this comment)
by Penguinlady
I haven't kept up on my alerts very well, but it just occurred to me that I need to check in here. And found this sad, but not unexpected, news. I'm glad his last days were gentle.

Ed personified the best features of the Internet - by his nature and actions, he created a family of people who never met him in the physical sense but still grew to love and appreciate him. I am one of those people, and valued him both for his wise, honest, and amusing words, and the community he created here.

We are all the poorer for his death.

Thanks, Wordwalker, for your efforts on his behalf and ours.

...and a kind lady to break the news. Thanks, ww, and thanks to Mr. Grover for many memories. I'll always think of that 'Old Gays Rd' sign with them standing in front of it, to me the symbol of a good man's self-deprecating sense of humour.

I was very sorry to read about Ed's death. I always enjoyed his posts and admired Ed as a very intelligent and kind individual. He was very good to me in my early posts on Epinions and I hope he rests in peace.

Gee, the world really does feel a little different, (Reply to this comment)

at least the epinions world, just knowing Ed is not here. I didn't know Ed well either, just through a few comments, and through reading his reviews because as soon as I started reviewing books everyone said I should read Ed Grover as the Gold Standard. He did seem to be a wonderfully sweet and engaging man who would be fascinating to meet face-to-face. I will look for him when I get where I'm going (eventually) where there will certainly be pets. AND there will be no discrimination for so-called alternate lifestyles, either. Enjoy, Ed!

I have been absent from the Epinions community for well over a year and I didn't even know that Ed was having serious health problems. I will miss him very much. Very much indeed. Sail on, Ed...this is only the beginning.

With much love and appreciation for all that you have given us here on Epinions and all that you have given the world during your stay here,

For reviews that are interesting and fun to read. For thoughtful comments and conversation about gardens, pests, books, and life in general. For an e-mail exchange of risque jokes and awful puns. For taking the time to answer friends, and always being courteous, kind, thoughtful, and quick with a witty answer to any question. We will remember you.

And many thanks, Wordwalker, for keeping us informed. Much appreciated!

and tears welled up in my eyes.

I didn't know Ed that well, only through his writing and through a few interactions in various comment fields, but I have always respected him. He's always had a wonderful sense of humour and I always enjoyed reading his reviews.

To me, he was an icon, and I was honoured when I first showed up on his web of trust. He seemed like a wonderful man, and he will be missed on the site, and in our hearts.

I know you'll give as much pleasure in heaven as you did down here, Ed. Thank you for everything.
