I've had this computer for about two years now and it's been pretty good.
It's pretty good for a laptop. 6GB is certainly enough for any college student like me, who basically needs the computer to write papers, maybe play a few games and play music and such.
Monitor's a little small, and the fan is obnoxiously loud. It's hard to upgrade, and although 6 gigs was good enough for me, it may not be good enough for everyone.
One of the first things I would recomend you do, is to upgrade from Win98 (the standard given with the laptop) to either WinME (which i have) or Win2k (which i've heard may be a bad idea for laptops). By wiping the hard drive in reinstalling all the drivers from the config disc, you free up about 2 to 2.5 gigs worth of space that was being wasted by mostly stupid Toshiba ads, and other worthless wastes of space.
The sound system isn't the best and often the speakers crackle and pop when the music is turned up, but overall the sound works. The microphone, headphone, and audio out jacks have all worked to perfection so far.
The accupoint mouse that comes on the laptop, i think, is far superior to the touchpads that IBM, Dell, and others use, but if you're going to use this computer for a while, definately get an external mouse.
The one USB port is kind of restricting especially since i like to use a gamepad with my games and i have an external cd burned that would both use the USB port. Also the two PCI ports is okay, but again kind of constricting.
The battery that comes with it lasts about 2 and a half hours. It charges pretty quickly, but still some longer battery life would be nice. I've succumbed to buying another battery.
Definately, this computer is worth the time, money, and whatever else you put into it. All of the problems i've mentioned above are pretty much in every laptop you'll find, so don't take them too seriously. One of my problems is that I'm subconsiously comparing this computer with my desktop and that's not really a fair comparison.
As far as tech support goes and anything like that, I really have no idea becuase nothing of note has gone wrong with this computer. A couple months ago, way after the warranty has expired, i noticed a vertical blue line on the right side of my monitor. I called Toshiba tech support and they pretty much said what i thought they would: sorry, but we can't help you, but here's some places that might be able to."
