I was 29 and he was in his early seventies--and we were making some really hot plans!

Sounds like my kind of party! I'll check it out--along with your Americana-style review (really into stuff like that, too)!

Cheers!
AJ :-)

P.S. Mark has this favorite line he likes to use when he's about to end a conversation. It has the same beginning and two choices for an ending.

It begins:

"Be good and be careful--and, if you can't be..."

First ending: "...careful, name it after me!"

Second ending: "...good, then tell me where the party is!"

I've also shared this story in Ciao, UK and have put a picture with it of Grandpa holding Karen (who was his very first great-grandchild) when she was a few months old.

He was somewhat heavy-set back then but still looked like Spencer Tracy--and, when he took off a lot of weight years later, he could almost be his twin!

Although Mark and Steven have always favored their dad in looks--and Grandpa was their mom's dad--I can see a lot of Grandpa in both of them (and, especially, Mark) as they've reached middle-age. I think it's their ornery expressions!

Cheers!

Yeah! I learned a lot of lessons from Grandpa--such as how to make a couple of neighborhood gossips practically pass out and pee themselves (especially the daughter).

After all these years, I can still hear her in my mind going: "ORK-ORK-ORK-ORK-ORK-ORK..." while her mom was hissing at her to "Hersh up!"

I have another funny one to tell you about Grandpa. He was pretty healthy and lived into his early 90s, but he was starting to lose his hearing, so he was always asking Karen, "What you say?"

Anyway, they were in this restaurant one time, and Grandpa cut the cheese in a pretty obvious way, so Karen, upon hearing the sound said, "What you say?"

He was a card. He also--according to Mark and Steven--had his moments of being a grumpy, old man, but I never saw that side of him.

I was living with a good-looking, single man who was twice-my-age back when I was still jailbait.

Paul was born on December 11, and I was born on December 12, so we were shacked-up in the hospital nursery together for a couple of days.

Not the same Paul I mentioned in my story, of course. When I was a newborn baby he was, give or take, 25 times my age!

Sounds as if you were (and still are) young-at-heart and all of the women know it!

Ciao!
AJ :-)

Cute story. My Husband and his mother will go out together and intentionally pretend they are a couple just to raise eyebrows.

He's crazy like that. Don't know what he's doing with me :)

I just wrote a book review on Indiana Roadside oddities and mentioned Mammoth Cave. I've Been there but never knew it has the largest "cave mountain" until now. Well atleast I had forgotten until reading it.

Have to come join my Embarrassing Moments write off If I know anyone brave enough to join it's AJ :)

Don't worry I'll make sure the bartender doesn't spike your drink or anything in the "running commentary" at the bottom.

Come join the party. It'll be fun. Hope to see ya there.

XOXO

you had more "older man" friends.

AJ hi, great story, and besides the gossip, I'm certain both of you learned something really valuable.

I, too, was lucky (or clever) to have had this "miracle".
Three times over the years I became connected to a woman exactly half my age..
at 42 she was 21..
at 50 she was 25..
and at 64 she was ...yes 32...
SO that was 3 great learning experiences...
even with the ongoing gossipers.

Go for it.

Lou.

From what I hear, both of those gossips have remained dumber than a box of rocks and getting dumber all the time! LOL

It's been almost 25 years, and I can still hear Jackie with her seal-bark laugh and her mother trying to hush her up!

My website comment section is working wonderfully--and collecting a lot of wonderful people (such as you). I need to have an adjustment made so that I can click on the various names there and bring up an e-mail body so I can touch back, but that's something Mark will be helping me to do as soon as he gets his computer fixed.

Hugs!

I Wonder - (Reply to this comment)

How many people in that town heard the story before they realized that Grandpa was still around. I hope the gossips learned a lesson, but I bet they didn't. They were probably busy making up sequels to account for being hoodwinked.
Funny story. And your comment section works.

We had a blast!

He was in his early 90s when he passed away a couple of years ago.

Although he was very sick at the last, he stayed relatively-healthy for most of his life and could still bend over and touch his toes when he was over 90.

Glad you liked this story! This is something I'll always remember!

Cheers!

Yeah! We definitely had those two silly women going!!!

I'll never forget Jackie and that goofy laugh where she sounded like a seal barking.

Nice to see you over here! Hope you start writing again.
