Shoe shopping is something that most females love; for me it was more of a necessity than a desire. Right now most of the boots, hikers and trainers I have are sitting on a shelf patiently waiting for me to wear them. My beloved Hi-Tec Tactical Boots are the ones I miss the most. Sure I could get them on but since the bottom of the prosthetic is all metal there's nothing to hold it in place. Oh yeah, I guess I should mentioned, I'm a BKA [below knee amputee] so that makes things even more interesting when shoe shopping. I got sick of the weird looks at the shoe stores and decided to go online to see what I could find. So if I have all these cool shoes why do I need new ones? Simple. I need something with a solid tread to it and something that has an even surface on both shoes. Some of the trainers have worn corners or areas where my heel strike wasn't even. I learned a lot about foot placement in therapy, a little too much. Going up and down steps without catching your toe or heel [even worse on carpeting], not dragging your foot or rotating it out and making sure that both shoes are tied tightly. Zappos has a great reputation so I decide that they would be my first stop. Thankfully it was the only place I needed to hit for my spiffy new shoes. The website is amazing. If you are looking for a shoe of any style or size, chances are they will have it. Even if you have weird or odd needs like me, they can help you find something that will work with you and within your budget. Barring stripper boots with obscene heels, the site has everything from sport shoes to casual wear for men, women and children. If my brood didn’t outgrow shoes on an almost monthly basis I would be ordering them from Zappos. When I started digging in at the site I saw that they also sold bags, sunglasses and jewelry. You could spend a hell of a lot of time at the site and still not see everything they have to offer. Even though you are looking at stuff on a computer screen you are given the chance to see different views of it. That really came into lay when I was looking for a replacement for my Gargoyle sunglasses. If I am going to spend a hundred dollars on a pair I don't want to just like them, I want to love them. You get to see different views of things so you can get a feel for them, most other sites give you one or two views if you are lucky. The pages load quickly too so don’t think you are going to be waiting for minutes for things to come up on the screen. Zappos customer service is awesome. Being an amputee I need a specific type of athletic trainer with a 3/8th inch heel. When I called them to see if they had those specifications for the shoes I wanted they transferred me to the running department. The person I talked to spent about ten minutes going over different shoes that would work best for me. Since I change my shoes often I wanted to order a couple different pairs and was more than pleased with the selection and price range. When I went to retail stores to get shoes no one was really able to answer my questions. I would try them on and couldn't really tell if they were something that was going to be able to help me or not. Selection is almost mind boggling but it is easy to view things by price, manufacturer or necessity. I stick with hikers and running shoes because they are easier to get on and off both feet. Yes, I still have two feet but one is all metal. I made more than a few calls to Zappos about the shoes I was interested in and they did a great job of helping me narrow down my choices. I eventually went with three pair and two of them were perfect, the third needed to get sent back and that was a painless process. The rocker movement on it was too much for me, it felt like I didn't have any control over my prosthesis and without control you are going to fall. The prices are unbelievable. The Reebok Trail Crossback sells for $49.99, ten dollars less than what the sport store wanted. The Nike Bandolier II is listed at $56.00 but I was only charged $49.99 so that was about $16.00 less than retail. One of the coolest things about the site is that you can view shoes according to price so if you are shopping on a budget you don't have to wade through pages of shoes to find something that fits you and your wallet. Suffice it to say, if you are looking for shoes, bags, select clothing lines or gifts, Zappos is a great place to check out. They offer free shipping and free returns, great customer service and a selection that is mind boggling. My review doesn’t really say anything more than what the thousands of other satisfied customers have written. Sure, being a gimp factors into things but Zappos made my shoe buying experience a little easier and I didn't have some 18 year old telling me that I could wear any shoe I wanted. Yeah, is he going to follow me around and prop me up when I'm tipping forward? ================== ^V^ © 2009 Freak369 ^V^ ================== Adidas Response TR8 Trainers Montrail Torre GTX Hikers New Balance 1220 Running Shoes Gorilla Gear Chrome Bags Otomix Online Urban Evolution
