Vistaprint is awesome. I've been ordering thousands of cards as well as other items for years, with no problems for the price.
There are a few very important things to know about Vista print however:
1. After you place your order (if using a credit card), there is a blue continue button (or two) or something similar at the bottom of the page. DO NOT CLICK THIS. This will auto-subscribe you to some crap outside services that charge your credit card monthly. It's very tricky, since it looks like it's part of the order process. VistaPrint is getting investigated for fraud since it's rather scammy. It looks like this: http://www.petsits.com/images/vistaprint/12.jpg
Better yet - pay with PayPal. I just did that, and no scammy options even came up!
If you are aware of this option, and avoid it, vistaprint is great. If you aren't, and you fall for it, you'll be very upset. A similar option is offered on sites like Buy.com and other online services.
2. After you place your order, they offer more of what you already bought for usually an even better price for 10 mintues. So add the business cards on last and then add more on after you order!
3. The deals usually require you to pay for shipping. It's very affordable (still a great deal), but don't be surprised that FREE is not entirely free.
4. Glossy finish, heavier/average cardstock, and any backsides are also more. Glossy finish is worth it - blacks look much blacker and the colors become much more vivid - much more professional. I also like adding a backside, but I usually go with a black and white backside with my own uploaded logo or image. I've never had a need for heavy cardstock. The cards look so professional, nobody notices that they are lighter than local printers. Often VP will offer deals on these add-ons also (often free) so watch for those in your email.
5. Adding your own images costs more (one charge to upload per image). Check out their library of stock clip art if you don't want to pay to add some art.
6. The business cards are ever so slightly smaller than average. The only problem with this is that if you buy the stick on magnetic backs to make them into refridgerator magnets, there will be a sticky millimeter border around the outside. Wait for one of their deals and buy printed magnets instead.
7. If you get on their mailing list they will send you AWESOME deals on the premium stuff constantly. I wait until 80% or 90% off the business cards before I order. Never pay full price at vistaprint!
8. If you make a typo (which I've done twice now - ruining over 2000 cards), it's your problem. Proofread your own stuff before you order. Then get a friend to proofread it.
9. If they make a problem - like printing is faded, a funny line is printed across the item, or cropping is crooked, they will fix it. Just call them and send samples of the problem.
10. If you need the cards now, then don't take the cheapest shipping and expect them to arrive tomorrow. They always do arrive sooner than they state, but only by a few days to a week.
If you have a new business, I recommend buying as many cards as you can from vista print at a time at the "deal" prices. That way you can hand them out all over without feeling like you need to save money by only handing them out to those who are "worthy" in order to save money.
If you are looking for high quality premium cards, don't expect to order the free vistaprint stock cards and be satisfied. Go to your local printer or order the upgrades offered at vistaprint.
But if you are looking for excellent looking business cards at an unusually affordable price with lots of great options and free premium designs - then definitely consider vistaprint!
