Great write-up...we've been fortunate to have been to many of the places you wrote about when my girls were younger...Where does the time go???????

My list would have been a bit different. I would have to list some Vermont towns as the most picturesque in the whole Northeast (try Woodstock in winter!). After Maine, the most rugged and adventurous area is the Adirondacks region in upstate New York.
As far as the cities go, I would say the most attractive city in the Northeast (by a mile) is Boston!
