NY Meet and Greet--A Baby's Eye View
Mar 26 '06
The Bottom Line I'm glad we went. We had a good time. Hopefully, I'll be less shy next time.
The following is written from the point of view of my 16-month-old who tagged along with me and her daddy to the most recent Epinions Meet and Greet held at the ESPN Zone in New York City on Saturday, March 25, 2006 from 1pm to 4pm.
THE VOYAGE THERE
I dont get these people. Mommy and Daddy have known me all my life and it still takes them forever to understand what I want. Picture it, I was strapped in my car seat for about an hour and a half, whining half the way, and Mommy kept passing me toys. I kept throwing them on the floor and whining some more. Finally, she took the hint and Daddy pulled over so she could feed me. Mmmm, banana and PediaSure. Good stuff for on-the-road travel. Then we were back on the road again, but this time we were going much slower. Mommy said thats because we were getting closer to the city. I guess there arent that many babies in the city because were fast little people and nothing slows us down.
LITTLE GIRL IN THE BIG CITY
After Daddy pulled a U-ey in the middle of 42nd street and found us a parking spot in a lot, I was finally out of the car
this time strapped in a stroller. Jeez! Cant a girl get a little exercise?
But boy was I impressed with what I saw. There were so many people, cars, and buildings. There were noises all around me. I couldnt decide which way to look first. Daddy finally undid my hood so I could have a better view. Ive never seen anything like it. Im going to have to come here with my friends some time. Those babies would love this place. I wonder what Belles up to.
ESPN ZONE
After walking outside for a few blocks, we entered a loud, warm building and took an elevator up to the skybox level. The nice coat-check lady told Mommy to take me out of that confining stroller since it was very crowded inside. Right. [wink, wink] That and because I slipped her a $20.
Inside, it was crowded and loud. There were so many people in such a small area. Everyone smiled at me and was very nice and welcoming. Then I saw another baby. Hmm
looked a little like my friend Belle from back home in NJ. Wow! It was Belle and her mommy marytara. Small world, girlfriend. Whats shaking? We swapped some war stories and then Mommy pulled me away to find food. Its not like I was hungry.
Then I saw them--Epidolls. Whoa! They were everywhere. Mommy kept insisting they looked like M & Ms, not that I know what those are. Those little bendy, squooshy guys are adorable and so much fun to play with. Me and Belle had fun with them. Daddy even got in on it when he wasnt chitchatting about sports. He and popsrocks talked about the Jets for a little while. Meanwhile, I tried to push through the wall of glass that separated me from the many giant TVs broadcasting all sorts of sports games.
THE PEOPLE
Im kinda short and Mommy and Daddy got there late (plus, theyre such wallflowers!) so I didnt catch everyone there. In addition to the folks above, here are some more people I saw dionne25 and her baby boy; davidk93, who played with me on the floor and commented on how well behaved I was; pvreditor, who plays a mean guitar; andyman, who was among the many photographers; fuche_bu; staceys1; and deenaf, though Im not sure I actually saw her when marytara pointed her out. I also saw some Epinions/Shopping.com staff, including President and CEO Lorrie Norrington, Christal Calderon, and Garrett Gonzales. There were plenty of other nice folks there and it looked like everyone was having a good time.
THE FOOD
Mommy tells me the food was excellent. The chicken was very moist and yummy and perfectly seasoned. The mashed potatoes were great. There was some sort of beef (roast beef, perhaps?) cooked with a mushroom sauce that was tasty as well. The strawberry-topped cheesecake was scrumptious. Daddy didnt take advantage of the open bar as much as Mommy thought he would. But he did enjoy a Heineken.
PHOTO OPS
Being a baby and all, Im no stranger to cameras. Everyones always trying to take a picture of me. The Meet and Greet was no different. Well, except for at the end when EVERYONE got in on a big group photo. Mommy and Daddy held me still for what seemed like hundreds of photos [probably more like 30].
OVERALL
Friendly faces, good food, a free T-shirt, and a couple of Epidolls that I managed to sneak out of thereit was a great day for a Meet and Greet!
