The Bottom Line Be sure to get plenty of rest, eat health, drink lots of water, and most importantly, check with your doctor before beginning any weight loss program.

Some of you may have read my recent post My Entry in The Weight is Over: The Diet and Exercise W/O. At that time, I had lost 27 pounds. I have now lost 36 pounds. I still have a long ways to go, but am well on my way.

Up until this point, I have tried and failed at countless weight loss plans. It was not for lack of trying. I just never found one that was right for me.

Some Methods I Have Tried

Diet Pills

Whether prescription or non-prescription, I have tried a small assortment that failed miserably. A couple of these actually did cause me to lose some significant weight as long as I continued to take them unfortunately, the minute I stopped taking them I immediately gained back every single pound I lost. The rest of them did nothing but give me the jitters, hardly the result I was looking for.

There were only two which I had any weight loss at all with, and as I said, I gained back all of the weight right away. The two caused any weight loss were Xenical and Phentermine, both which were prescribed by doctors at different times in my life. These are the only weight loss pills I might recommend you try, and then only if your doctor thinks they might be right for you. As I said, they did not give me the desired results, but they may work better for someone else.

Health Clubs or Groups

I won a free trial membership at Curves for Women, and thought it would be great. It probably would have if there had been one in my town. Unfortunately, the nearest one was more than 30 miles away so I really didn't get to give this one a fair trial. Also because of a back injury, I could not take full advantage of the exercise equipment like some of the other women I saw there. I would have loved to be able to take full advantage of their program, and feel that it may be a great program for some people.

Diet and Exercise

Of course, you don't need to be involved with any organized group to diet or exercise. You can do it on your own, or with a group of friends.

I have no specific diet that I am following. I have cut out the majority of the pop I drink. I used to drink Pepsi all day long, but have now switched to the fitness waters.

I try to limit the portions I eat, and cut out some of the junk foods. I try to think a little more about what goes into my mouth instead of eating it just because it is there. After all, if you aren't hungry, why eat?

I have a couple of other friends who have joined me in this weight loss campaign. Although they have not shared their actual weights with me, G has now dropped 4 pants sizes using the Weight Watchers Plan, and D has gone down 4 pants sizes using the Adkins Plan.

What's the best way to determine the right weight loss plan for you?

Different weight loss plans will work better for different people. I know that I would never be able to stick to a plan that deprived me of carbohydrates, sweets, or any other particular food that I enjoy.

Pills were also not the answer for me, although they may help someone else. Exercise is a big issue for me. Many weight loss plans have specific exercises you are expected to do. With my back injury, I can't do some of them and have to have exercise programs tailored to me instead.

What should you look for to ensure that your diet will help you lose weight AND stay healthy?

In my opinion, this is the most important aspect of weight loss is to make sure that you are not sacrificing your health for your weight.

I have seen far too many people go on crash diets at the expense of their health. I have seen a good friend whose health deteriorated badly when she lost too much weight too quickly because of pills she never should have taken.

The best advice I can give you is try not to lose too much weight too quickly. Be sure to get plenty of rest, eat health, drink lots of water, and most importantly, check with your doctor before beginning any weight loss program.
