After the downfall of my old monitor, whose brand need not be mentioned, I hit the grand opening of a nearby BestBuy to find a monitor that I knew was going to hold up, at a reasonable price. The first time I looked down the line of monitors, comparing size, price, and resolution the Samsung SyncMaster 955DF flatscreen immediately caught my attention. Looking at its clear flat screen and beautiful picture made me know I found what I was looking for. It had good size (18" viewable), a resolution of 1600x1200, and a dot pitch of .2 mm.

For those of you who thought that last line was jibberish, let me explain. The screen resolution of 1600x1200 means the number of pixels (dots) displayed on the entire screen. In this example of a 1600x1200 screen, this is saying that there are 1,600 pixels on each of 1,200 lines. So, if my math is correct there are 1,920,000 total pixels on the screen. The dot pitch is the space between each pixel, many of the other monitors were .22mm or .2mm, the smaller the number the sharper the image.

None of the other monitors could compare to those numbers while maintaining a low price (ofcourse the $40 mail in rebate didn't hurt). Plus this monitor has the name Samsung on the front. I myself own a Samsung television and like it very much, I have owned it for a little more than 2 years and have yet to have a problem. Therefore, I knew I was getting a quality monitor. The price I paid was $289(not counting rebate), which is a great price for a 19" flatscreen monitor.

One thing I love about this monitor is that I can do anything on it. I play computer games all the time and I love they way it looks, the monitor looks crisp and clear all the time and its flatscreen is gentle on your eyes, for those of you who sometimes get a headache staring at the computer screen too long, those days are over!

If you are really looking to find a flaw, perhaps it is that the monitor is somewhat bulky. You cannot expect a 19" monitor to be very compact but the monitor is quite large and will take up some room on your computer desk.

After adding up all these factors my conclusion is that the Samsung SyncMaster 955DF is not only a steal being a 19" monitor for such a cheap price, but also a 19" monitor with a great flatscreen picture that has awesome resolution and also looks good.
