I haven't noticed you in the Epinions Message Center. It's a good place to talk about these issues. Many have been discussed and some are in discussion now.

Be sure to contribute there.

Good job here.

OK so we should all put an HTML to the details section if it has useful information otherwise put the details on the bottom of your review so those of us who are just looking to see what you think about something don't need to read things you have no opinion about.

GOOD IDEA?

I especially like your suggestion about a having a simple toolbar for the HTML stuff!

hey there Stacey . . .and all...

Of course, sometimes the [View Details] page is _not_ active or has no useful content. Obviously, before one mentions or links to it, one needs to make sure it has some value.

That 'View Details' page can easily be mentioned in any review and even 'HTML-d' into a clickable link.

That is true, however, I think that if I am going write a sentence explaining to a new (or non) member about how to get to the details page, I may as well use that sentence to give a brief summary of details.

hey there Stacey...

you said...
"Not all products have specifications listed on the details page, and if a non-Epinions member finds a reveiew through an outside search engine (such as Google), they will be brought directly to the review and may never see the details page."

That 'View Details' page can easily be mentioned in any review and even 'HTML-d' into a clickable link.

I try to treat my reader like the intelligent consumer he/she surely is and not regurgitate information that is a click away. I think most users here, you and I included, share that desire that each review stand on its own without necessarily referring to other reviews on the site.

Oops . . .just realized that 'clickable link' idea slams into her suggestion about HTML..! Arrggghhhh..!

The specifications are already out there on the "view details" button. Why must I read them in your opinions?

Not all products have specifications listed on the details page, and if a non-Epinions member finds a reveiew through an outside search engine (such as Google), they will be brought directly to the review and may never see the details page. I am of the opinion that each review needs to stand on its own and be conclusive, since even if there are 500 reviews on a product, a consumer may only read one of them.

Just my Epinion, of course :)

great (and recurring...) thoughts.

Of course I would agree with number 1. A bit of investigation will lead you to my own attempt(s) at altering the culture that produces 3K reviews.

Number 5 would simply lead to abuse by members looking to get more hits for trivially 'updated' reviews. Unfortunately we are all not altruistic in our behavior here.

Your other suggestions seem to be worthwhile also. Not sure what viability any of them might have . . .but who knows. As kath suggested, maybe bringing one/several up at a future chat might be productive indeed.

......suggestions!!

The darn spellcheck bugs the heck out of me. I tell myself I'll know where I need to go back and fix a word, then spend time reading and rereading trying to find my error again. Frustrating.

I knew that you could do drafts, but wasn't quite sure how to go about it.......I'd be afraid of closing the darn window. I've lost reviews before (not doing it this way) and would be afraid that would happen again.

Keep looking at ways to improve things....and be sure to go to the next chat that Eps has and make the suggestions then. You'll have the higher ups ear anyway. :)

........Make it a great day.......kath

Go through the submission process and when you get to the proofreading step where you are supposed to give final approval, just kill the window. It will show up in your account summary as unpublished content that you can update and submit or delete. I discovered this by accident.

I agree with a lot of your gripes! I especially agree about a better editing process, avoiding need to use HTML, and a better search engine and sorting process.
