Thanks for your comments. I'll certainly keep that recommendation in mind, but I honestly can't remember the last time I rented a movie. I own to many to justify a rental.
Considering some people here have a top 12 list in the top 10 catagory, I am not worried about having a top 9. Eventually we all even out.

I see your dilemma!
But I really think, when a category is called "The Ten Best Movies of 2005," you really should have Ten. I may be old fashioned, and the exception is unfortunately becoming the rule in our Nation and even here at Epinions.
[You know, "It won't hurt if just I do it."]
But it would be Very Helpful to me, even if I'm tempted myself.
Here is one from my list of The Ten Best Movies of 2005 which I think would fit your tastes. It is a wry, gentle fantasy (from a rather surprising source) about two little boys who have lost their mother, and how there dad tries to make up for it, and how a Dickensian stroke of luck changes their lives. It is warm, funny, and full of home truths, not to mention Saints.
It is called MILLIONS. Here is my list:

And if you wish more information, here is my review of MILLIONS:

Tell you what:
If you see MILLIONS, and it fits into your group, or you find another film, a Ten, to your liking, let me know of your addition, and I'll re-rate.
That's how we all improve around here.

Most family films get trashed by the critics. Not all (Pixar, for example), so those of us who enjoy them need to speak up occasionally.
Glad you enjoyed the list.

You're welcome.
I saw several that didn't make the list including the last Star Wars movie. That one would certainly make a worst movies of the year list if I were planning to do one.

you've seen at least 8 more movies this year than I did - we saw Chicken Little. Thanks for the entry in my W/O!

Glad you enjoyed the list. And even gladder to see I'm not the only one who enjoyed Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Thanks. Glad you liked the list.
I freely admit my tastes aren't the normal ones everyone else expects. But I've never claimed to be normal. Just too boring. :)

But you see, I don't want to see those films. They don't appeal to me in the slightest. This is my list of movies I liked this year based on what I wanted to see.

Interesting choices (Reply to this comment)

I get tired of seeing people praise the same movies over and over again. Why make a top ten (or nine) list if you are only going to list the same movies everyone else already agrees on? While I am not a fan of all the movies you listed, it was interesting to read why you liked them.

Someone was forcing you to write a 10-best list even though it appears you have seen almost none of the films on most lists (Batman Begins made some, and might make mine)? I'm not ready to do a list for 2002 yet!
