Do you need more USB ports? With everything from printers, scanners, digital cameras, joysticks and more using USB connections, the need for more ports USB ports are here today. Now you can turn one USB port into 4 USB ports.
My Need for more ports!
My computer has two USB ports in the back, having a USB scanner, a USB digital Camera, a USB PC conference camera, a USB SmartMedia card reader and a new printer that is USB ready.
It was time to expand my USB ports
The SIIG USB Mini Hub 4000 Pro
This is a small device measuring 3.38 inches wide by 1.94 inches deep and 0.88 inches thick. The device has a USB connection in the back that connects to one of your USB ports on the computer, also in the back is a power connection for the provided AC adaptor. (A USB cable is supplied to connect the Hub to the computer.)
The front of the Hub has four USB outputs to connect four devices. So you are taking one USB port from the computer to create four USB ports.
The device has 5 lights on top of it that turn on when the computer is turned on and they turn off when the computer is shut down. There is one light that is red that lets you know that the unit is on and four green lights, one by each port letting you know they are ready for use.
What is in the Box!

Installation
Installation is easy to do.
(1) Make sure the computer if off.
(2) Find a place to set the Hub, I used some double sticking tape and mounted it on my entertainment center where I could use it easily.
(3) Plug the AC adaptor in the back of the hub and then the AC outlet.
(4) Plug the provided USB cable from the Hub to the computer.
(5) Turn on the computer, windows will pick up the Hub automatically, no software needed.
Hot-Swapping Feature
This means you can plug and unplug USB devices without turning off the computer.
I use Windows ME and it always gives me a warning when I unplug a device that it could cause the computer to crash, but it hasn’t crashed on me yet. I always click on the OK button and there are no computer problems.
Other Features
It is Compliant with USB specifications, Version 1.1
It is Compliant with OpenHCI Specification Revision 1.0a
It Supports full-speed of 12 millionbytes per second and low speed of 1.5 million bytes per second data transfer modes and per-port over-current detection and protection
Requirements
PC or Mac ready with a USB port.
The PC needs Windows 98 or better and the Mac needs OS 8.1 or better,
Overall
It is small and doesn’t even look bad when in view, I looked at other brands and they were slightly larger and clear so you could see the electronics in them. The 4000 Pro is a dark sliver gray on the top and black on the bottom, it is more attractive to me then the other ones.
Installing it was a snap and it works great without any problems, price was $29.95. The price isn’t bad considering you get a USB cable, which cost alone $19.95 to $29.95.
The SIIG USB Mini Hub 400 Pro has a five-year warranty.
If you need more USB ports, then I highly recommend the investment of the SIIG USB Mini Hub 400 Pro.
