The Bottom Line Why don't you just read the review? Oh, too lazy, eh? Well, so am I...
The back story behind this is a little long, so please bear with me. This poem I originally wrote based on a challenge. My U.S History teacher used to occasionally read from the Calendar/Kids section of the LA Times, doing movie reviews and reading the jokes and poems in the childrens section. Now many of the kids whom sent poems say that they are seven or eight, yet they were writing about deep things such as contrasting between light and shadow or inner emotions and so on, stuff that I did not start writing about until years later. I once remarked out loud in class Heck, those kids write better then me. My teacher challenged me to send something to the Times. So I did. Unfortunately, I sent it in by my real name and real age (I saw nothing in the guidelines specifically stating age or such). The Times rejected it merely because I was too old, and then started putting what age you had to be in their guidelines. I next sent this in to my high school literary magazine. Long story short, it got narrowly rejected (Anything that scored 18 points or lower by the panel of judges got rejected, and I got exactly 18!) Thus, this poem has been rejected by two different groups and has never gotten a mass audience. That is, until now. So, without delay, I present: Pen Pal I am the pen, I am your pal. Make sure to use me often, Or I will go mad like HAL. Feel angry, depressed or psychotic? Let me be your narcotic. Ill express your deep personal thoughts Through thousands of my inkblots. Let your pen be your aid: Keep it close, use it for fun. Unless its also a hand grenade, Which means RUN!!! Customize your pen, make it your own; Make sure you have pride in it being shown. But dont put anything offensive on it; Rather, put on a beautiful sonnet. Dont think Im dumb or something for writing this. Im just trying to demonstrate, with great acumen, What one person, motivated can accomplish With a simple, ordinary pen. |
