Buyers Beware! This company is not as trustworthy or as buttoned-up as they would like you to think. I’m not alone. Make sure to read the negative user experiences and you will begin to see a pattern. In my case, I placed my order online for a black Canon XSi and they did not confirm the order until I contacted them three times. When it comes to online shopping, I can’t remember the last time I didn’t get confirmation virtually instantly. After several days, I noticed my order was still pending and not filled. When I contacted them again, they said that they had low stock and the order from Canon was pending. 7 to 10 days. I waited another ten days and still nothing. I contacted them again. The excuse now was that they received an order of 100 cameras, but Canon sent the wrong color, all silver (I order the black model). I didn’t want the silver model, so it would take another 7 to 10 days. I waited another week and when I contacted them yet again, they said they had six cameras on rush from Canon, but they could not tell me when they would arrive. I find it hard to believe that a major company like Canon and an established online retailer like Electronics Expo do not have a system worked out where the retailer can track orders. All business these days is computerized and trackable. This makes no sense. It’s been nearly a month and I still don’t my order. I’m a patient man, but I think it’s time to cut my losses. I learned two very important lessons from this transaction: A) If the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. B) Don’t shop at Electronics Expo. Ever. I cancelled my order today. I hope they can do that right.
***UPDATE***
I got a call yesterday from a sales person at Electronics Expo (the same from previous calls). He had read my reviews and wanted to make amends, which I felt was admirable (although he kept mispronouncing my name after I corrected him). I told him that the thing I was most upset about during this transaction was that I had to work to get information about my order. They never contacted me. I had to contact them. Repeatedly. He half-heartily accepted blame on behalf of his company but asked if I’d consider revising my reviews for gift credits towards future Amazon.com purchases. (For every review I changed on various websites, I’d get a $20 gift card.) I told him I appreciated the call and I’d think it over. Well I have. Instead of taking their money, I decided to update this review and offer Electronics Expo some advice:
1. Update your site so that it confirms purchases instantly. Amazon does it. Retailers on Ebay do it. Just about any online retailer does it. Electronics Expo is a big establishment with thousands of orders a week. Time to upgrade.
2. Don’t make your customers work for information about their orders. Contact them before they contact you. If the inventory stock changes, alert us. If the wrong stock comes in, alert us. A simple courtesy call will have a profound effect on the confidence level your customers have in your company.
3. If you make a mistake, own up to it and make it right. In my case, simply offering to ship next day versus ground once the order came in would have sufficed. For others, give them free shipping or an additional 5% off. Do something BEFORE a customer is upset and calls you.
I probably won’t ever shop with Electronics Expo again, but I hope this review helps anyone who decides to in the future.
