I'd love to print this and shove it under my nurse manager's door, but I don't think she'd appreciate it. That part about needing to have a little experience in the area you're managing would probably finish things off. She tries, but there's just no way to really manage a NICU if you're afraid of the babies.

NRP is certainly critical for OB nurses. We're just across the hall from the birthing center, and there's not always time to get there before the baby is out. The difference between that OB nurse effectively ventilating the baby or standing there wringing her hands can be the difference between special education (or a funeral) and a college scholarship 18 years from now.

Thanks Barbara. Unfortunately, it is also true that a Bad nurse can take it all away with one unkind or careless act. God help me stay on the good side, and protect patients from me when I am bad. Thanks for stopping. Jude

And you'd have to empty your own bedpans too. Sobering thought, hey what? It is just too bad that nurses have to fight hard for their rights and dignity, when most give so selflessly to the profession.

As for doctors, their are some whose mercy I would trust, for all of that.

Thanks, my friend.

this year for a week in the hospital I really do appreciate how hard a nurse works , how much devotion a good nurse needs and how important to the patient they are...

God bless....

that I am probably the only person on earth besides your former husband and your daughter who knows how much of your life you have devoted to nursing. I think that it is great that in all of the years of nursing, both as a staff member and as a manager, there has never been even one complaint from a patient about your care. I am very proud of you.

. . . nurses.

Without them we would be at the sole mercy of doctors.
