The Bottom Line So here ya go, try em on. I know some of them are newer and that makes them for some reason "uncool" to like. Whatever . . .

These aren't all the usual ones. Of course, some of the unusual ones are becoming usual so . . . (in no special order)

-Session 9-
A very creepy psychological thriller. Not talking gore or too many freights, just plain creepiness. When a crew begins working on an abandoned mental hospital weird psychological things start happening. Is it real? Is it a leftover crazy person? Is it one of the crew members? The audience is held in suspense until the end, no dramatic irony here.
Worst moment: that damn voice on the tape called "Session 9" at the end of the movie. Sheesh.

-Audition-
A foreign film that is also psychological. What begins as a blooming romance for a widower soon becomes hesitation, confusion, and then sheer horror. This movie is like a turning a jack in the box handle very slowly until it all explodes at the end. Make sure you watch the unrated/uncut version, it has a few more neat things.
Worst moment: the last 20 minutes . . . what can I say

-The Hills Have Eyes (2006)-
A remake of the older Wes Craven film. Wes chose Alexandra Aja (from High Tension) to do this remake. Very well done. Contains some very taut moments that stress the hell out of you.
Worst moment: when the "eyes" take the females hostage in the trailer

-Child's Play-
This one is in human nature, we don't like things (such as dolls) that move when they shouldn't. And boy does this one move. A serial killer using voodoo/hoodoo enters a doll upon death. A kid named Andy is the lucky one to receive this doll.
Worst moment: When the mom realizes Chucky's batteries are out after he just spoke

-Hostel-
Eli Roth's second film after Cabin Fever. Think of it as Eurotrip 10x better for the first half and then 10x worse for the second half. Two Americans and a European are traveling around Europe. Upon a suggestion for the greatest girls, they head to Bratislava, Slovakia (just like in Eurotrip). However, this dream come true also comes with a price.
Worst moment: missing an eye anyone?

-The Exorcism of Emily Rose-
The neat thing about this supernatural film is that the horror supports the story. The main story is a courtroom case about the exorcism of Emily Rose, which is based on true events in Germany.
Worst moment: learning that 3 am is the "witching hour" and then you wake up at 3 am, damn

-The Last House on the Left-
Two girls looking to have fun end up in hell. Sometimes during this one you may feel like you're watching a snuff film. It does have some offbeat moments but the final impact of revenge is worth it. You may feel guilty after watching, as in "I didn't do anything to help them."
Worst moment: realizing that the ones they hurt are the kids of the ones they're with

-When A Stranger Calls (2006)-
The classic campfire story of the all alone babysitter. This is winds up slow and has some creepy moments, not something to watch alone. Improves on the original.
Worst moment: have you checked the children?

-High Tension-
A stranger pulls in the driveway, we've all had the feeling. This is what we expect usually, but it does offer a twist. Definitely installed an alarm system after this one. Originally a French film I believe.
Worst moment: the stranger isn't asking for directions

-Saw and Saw 2-
A horrible nightmare of choices to make that you really really don't want to. Awful suspense but it is also a puzzle which engages the audience. Saw 2 wasn't shabby either and expanded on the first, but doesn't have the same isolation that the first has.
Worst moment: (Saw) dead people aren't dead; (Saw 2) something's behind your eye
