Fantastic Beach

Written: Jun 03 '09 (Updated Jun 03 '09)
Pros:Beautiful water, beach,and friendly people
Cons:There were no cons to speak of
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this beach to anyone old or young because of it's natural charm and overall vibe.

I took a cruise that visited various locations in the Caribbean and most didn't have great beaches within walking distance so unfortunately I was unable to go. I was actually invited by one of the staff of the cruise who said it was their favorite beach to visit of all the locations they port. She said that some of the other crew actually choose to jog the short distance to the beach do to the beautiful scenery and paved road. When I got off the ship and exited the shopping area I asked everyone how to get to the  beach and could I walk. The cabbies and the information desk all told me it was too far and they would not help me with direction because they wanted me to pay for a ride. I decided to take my chances and walk. It was two lanes separated by a median lined with trees and a walking trail down the middle. The walk was beautiful although hot but halfway through I met an American who after telling him of the beach he agreed to come along with me. It was a short 3 mile walk that took about thirty five minutes. Along the way I saw wild lizards and one weighed at least 6 pounds. The road was long and straight with one turn to the left. As we approached the dirt lane that opened the coast up and revealed a cozy town lined with street vendors and a cool summer breeze.  Look for a place called the Swing Bar. It is a cute little hut near the end of the strip with bench swings to site at while ordering a cold cerveza. The Swing Bar also plays some very current house music that will help you relax in a tranquil environment or if in the mood make you dance. Drinks are reasonably priced and cerveza starts at $2. I recommend Sol as the beer of Mexico rather than Tacate, supposedly Mexicans don't drink Corona.

The Beach is beautiful with white sands and palm trees. The water is a gorgeous turquoise blue that fades into deep blue. The water is shallow for 100 yards and is the temperature of a warm bath. There is a nice mix of families and young adults. Opposite the beach is a quaint bed and breakfast with a beautiful courtyard with bathroom facilities. I would recommend finding this place to stay for a week.
