I made a reservation in mid-April to travel from Orange County, CA to Chico, CA, knowing when I made it, I may have to cancel. The reservation was for a flight and a hotel for one night. I carefully read the cancellation policy before booking, and it stated that there would be a fee associated with cancellation after booking. Understanding that was the risk I took, I booked the trip. The cost of the trip was $525. It was a Thursday when I booked the trip. That weekend, I learned I would have to cancel, so Monday, I attempted to cancel on-line. Not possible. So I clicked on the "contact us" button. It did nothing. So I called the toll-free number. Explaining my situation to the overseas agent, he agreed to cancel my trip. When I asked he credit my credit card, he told me there would be no credit. When I asked why, he told me that the "fee" for cancellation was $525 - the full amount of the trip. I have escalated this to the CEO of the company, and so far, no satisfaction. They have even claimed that I actually checked into the hotel, which is impossible, since I was 450 miles away. The point is this: if the trip you are booking is NON-REFUNDABLE, then state that in your policy plainly. Don't say that there is a fee to cancel. If the "fee" is equal to the price of the trip, then it is a non-refundable booking. These people are dishonest, and their policies are misleading. Don't use them. I never will again.
