Then go with AT&T. If you like feeling cheated and belittled then go with AT&T. Otherwise, please get a different provider FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
Time and again, AT&T has not only fallen short of my expectations of a wireless service, it has stomped, spit on, and driven over them! Where do I begin...
Technology.
AT&T uses the generation of wireless technology that is one iteration older than most of its competitors (Sprint, Verizon, etc). What does this mean? Worse sound quality! My conversations require the repetition of most sentences... even with my fancy Nokia super-phone! I have plenty of signal, but the sound quality is atrocious. I've purchased three phones with this service in hopes that I could improve on the sound quality. To no avail; the service is the weak link.
Reliability.
So, someone calls me on my land line phone, asking "Why didn't you call me back?" "You didn't call," I reply. Turns out they *did* call me, but the voice mail doesn't come through until a day later! Sometimes, my phone is on, I have a strong signal, and a call doesn't bother to ring on my phone. Goes straight thru to my voice mail as if I didn't have my phone on. And, like I stated previously, who knows when I'll get that message. This happens all the time, folks. Complaints to customer service have gone in one ear and out the other (more on that below).
Customer Service.
Hands down, the rudest, laziest people in the industry. You can tell they don't like their jobs, and why not? They work for the worst wireless provider in the industry. Their "I don't care about you" and "Tough, you're under a contract" attitudes have offended me time and again. Their 800 number requires you to enter your information several times via the keypad, then when you finally get a representative after an unacceptably long wait you have to tell them all the same info again! Why?! I just entered it! It's things like this that prove they don't have their act together. I've spoken to a person's supervisor, then later that person's supervisor. Same attitudes all the way up! Nothing ever gets accomplished except for a complete run-around which comes full-circle to the person I started with.
Conclusion
If it sounds like I'm only trashing AT&T and providing no positive points, it's because that's what I'm doing. They're horrible. I don't say this because of one bad experience, but because of many. Sure, I can make calls and sometimes receive them. But, in this age, we the consumers demand more. Poor sound quality, high prices, and bad service may have been the norm in the late eighties, but other companies run a tighter ship these days. Yes, I am going to switch to another provider as soon as is humanly possible (without incurring the exorbitant fees AT&T charges for early contract termination) and go with a provider that actually is worth paying money for. I've heard that Verizon is good in these parts...
