My first purchase of a Square Trade Warranty was on eBay where Square Trade is used a lot, so you can click on a link for them. For an eBay item, Square Trade has a copy of the receipt and purchase date, which you will need to supply if you buy your item from, say Best Buy or Target, etc. Buying a warranty may sound like a long process, but it is really just 4 steps: Search 'Square Trade', click on 'get a quote' and you'll get a pop-up window. There you select type of electronics from the pull-down menu, date purchased, and condition (new or refurb). If you like what you see, click on 'purchase the warranty' and register your info. It is one of the easiest sites I've used. The quote pops up very quickly. It is very important to have your receipt, which I don't feel is made very clear. After you have purchased the item, you can click on the 'My Warranties' tab to view your stuff. I have 6 warranties - at that point I click on the generic tab (i.e. TV, Other electronics etc.) and rename my warranty so I know exactly which item I am looking at. I have named them my model name & number (Inspiron 15) for simplicity. When you click on the individual warranty, the page describing coverage appears. That page is very important, because you are not done yet. You will notice in the 'Covered Item' box is the item description, type of warranty, and - date of purchase receipt received. You must send a copy of your receipt to Square Trade in order to use your warranty. Underneath the Manage My Warranties box is a blue light bulb that indicates you can file the receipt digitally. What that means is that the link takes you to a page where you can print a fax cover sheet with bar codes referencing your item, and then fax it with a copy of the receipt to Square Trade. I use that method and so don't know any other way to do it. There is a box to the right labeled Quick Links, with a link 'manage my receipts'. It takes you to the digital receipt page again, so I think you would have to call Square Trade if you don't have access to a printer/fax and find out how to mail it in. At the bottom of the Manage My Warranties page is a link where you can view your warranty details. If you ever need to file a claim you can do it online in the Quick Links box, or by phone. You will then be contacted on how to get the item to Square Trade for repair. After they have sent you any special packaging (to avoid damage in shipping), it takes two days to get it to Square Trade, they fix it and mail it back within 5 days. I received my box the following weekday to send in my laptop that I had dropped. I had to return my laptop for a second repair when it developed new problems after a few days of use. When it was apparent that it was not repairable, Square Trade replaced the item minus a $50 deductible. The warranties I bought were a whole lot cheaper than the same manufacturer's warranties, and I certainly got faster service with less hassle. Remember that manufacturers sell you warranties, but don't like to honor them. It took me an average of a month and a whole lot of arguing to get anything done by Dell or Best Buy.
