The Bottom Line Congrats on your 300th Review Julie!
This is my entry in 42English's Tip Me Off Write Off, to celebrate her 300th review! Congratulations, that's a Lot of Reviews! First, my three work related tips. Well, I've been an attorney for 16 years now, and have also taught as a part time professor at a local college's para legal program. Here are my three free legal tips! 1. Get it in Writing! No matter what you are doing, buying a car, a house, or a service, promises that are told to you don't mean a thing, unless you get it in writing. If things go wrong later on, its much easier to resolve when you can point to a written signed document instead of saying Oh the salesman told me that we would get..... 2. Read What you Sign! Often times, I have the bad news to tell people that they are in a situation that they are in, because they agreed to it in writing. They signed an agreement or contract, WITHOUT knowing what it said! Don't do that! Seriously. If you don't understand something you are signing, don't have the person who wants you to sign it explain it either, get someone neutral or on your side. 3. Be Nice to People What kind of legal advice is that? Most of my job involves getting things accomplished for people. I have found that being nice to people, and respecting them and their positions, and politely explaining your position and what you need works far better than anger or screaming and yelling. You would be surprised at how many things can be obtained with a good attitude. Don't believe me? Go down to your local court and scream and yell at the clerks about the legal system and demand help for filing a small claim. Explain how your tax dollars pay their salary. (Don't do this at a court that you will actually need to file anything in). At another court, try to ask for the same assistance but tell the clerk how much you appreciate it. Be courteous and polite. See which court gives you the assistance you need. This works in most every other area of life as well. Now for the Write off Questions! 1. Which category/categories do you write most reviews for? I write mostly in Movies, Music, Electronics, and Computer Hardware. I have also written a few reviews in Pets and Games. Surprisingly to me, I have written exactly ONE review in Business & Technology and currently hold the #222 author popularity spot in that category. I wrote about my Optoma Projector 2. Which category/categories do you write the least reviews for? Well, I guess I haven't written anything for Wellness and Beauty and I haven't written anything for Travel...yet 3. What is the worst product you have reviewed? The Bose Lifestyle 48 System is so overpriced, and it really doesn't sound very good at all. I wish more people would listen to good hi fi equipment, and less to Bose's marketing department. I am shocked at how shoddy and overpriced their products are, but how many people swear by them anyway. 4. What is the best of the best? Oh that's a tough question, I really love a lot of my home theater system. I carefully research and listen or look at everything I buy before I take it home. The latest review I wrote in electronics was for a Rotel RB 991 Power Amplifier. Many people may think that the power source for your stereo system doesn't make a lot of difference, but it really does. 5. Which was the best value for the money? I love my Westinghouse 27" LCD HDTV because not only is it a High Definition Television, but it is also a great widescreen computer monitor. In fact, it's the monitor I read and write the majority of my reviews with. It was about $600.00 cheaper than the next cheapest HDTV of the same size. 6. Which product surprised you most, whether it be good or bad? I bought my son a pair of Heely's and he had so much fun with them, I bought a pair for myself. I wrote about my experiences. Roller Shoes for a Big Kid - Heely's Revolution Men's Shoe. It's sort of a funny story, and my first review in sporting goods. 7. What is your most successful review, when did you write it and how many hits did it receive? One of my very first reviews, written the month I joined, February 2004, on the Epson Perfection 3170 Flatbed Scanner has had 6515 hits as of the date of this review. It was also the first review I had in a most popular review list. One that surprised me was my first book review Confessions of a Shopaholic also written in February 2004, which has over 1000 hits and is close to being my first book review on the most popular book reviews list.
