Towering Above the Sludge Pile - The Motley Kid's Hall of Fame W/O

May 05 '06

The Bottom Line ...Also known as my first W/O entry ever. What better way to start than honoring my favorite Epinions members?

I stumbled upon this write off and was sad to see it's had very little action. So, here's my very first attempt at a write off entry. I hope you come away from it with a fresh look at a few of your fellow members. I know my list is long, but considering how giant our community is, I think some diversity is in order here. Please don't be offended if you didn't make my list - I wish I could put everyone on here, but it is called Hall of Fame for a reason. Playing favorites is always a risky game, but not being my favorite doesn't mean I don't love you to death! Read on for a glance at some remarkable folks.

Favorite Members who make me smile:

drdevience
From her username to her bouncing demented doctor image to her brilliantly funny message board comments and reviews, the good Doc makes me ROFL most every time I encounter her work.

vemartin
He's staunch in his opinions, his smile is infectious and Vincent has a way of touching my emotions deeply in some of his reviews.

pearannoyed
Amy shines like a ray of brilliant light through a storm. Her disposition on the book and movie boards has been a pleasant, refreshingly delightful thing to behold. Her reviews get to the heart of the matter and make me smile for two reasons: 1 - Insight; 2 - The fact that I won't be there all day searching for the jewels - they're grouped neatly in the treasure chest, with no pennies to fill up extra space.

panguitch
Ah, Andy. He's something else. His wisdom and wit balance beautifully and equal a fascinating person. I perk up every time I read something he's written. I also find a smile when his latest face is posted (and he changes them often).

lorace
Lorace and I have a good bit in common, as I've decided from a number of her reviews and posts. She's very likable, kind, thoughtful and holds her own through any discussion I've seen her in. She has a lot of useful, constructive things to say, and she says them well. Her personality alone makes me smile, and I'd count myself fortunate to call her a friend.

Bryan_Carey
Bryan made me smile the first time I ventured into his user profile. His friendly face led me to explore the facets of his personality. He rates a lot of reviews, and is on the favorable side of the curve. He's a positive force on the site, and a very visible one.

three_ster
I can't put my finger on what makes me like him most, but Ryan makes me smile, too. I think his comments in reviews are what really draw me into his spell. He's gentle and kind enough to soften the blow of any criticism he delivers - a finely honed, rare skill.

Favorite Members whose reviews keep me coming back for more:

carstairs38
Mark keeps me nodding in agreement through just about every review he writes. He's well-read in his book genre and, as a result, offers a thorough, well-rounded viewpoint on the books he reviews. I'm thankful that he's branched out to cover music and movies, as well. On the message boards, I find more bits and pieces of Mark-brand humor and wisdom, and he falls under the make me smile category, as well. He's been a member for only a short amount of time, but his contributions have been streaming from his fingers at a steady rate.

phungus
William wears a few hats and if you've done much in games, I imagine you've encountered him. His grasp of a wide variety of subjects keeps me returning when I want an informed opinion on games, movies and more.

marytara
The new review notification button is an Epinions feature I rarely use. But years ago, when I first joined the site, Mary caught and held my wandering eye. At the time I started reading her stuff, I had a bun in the oven, so her product reviews were invaluable to me. She still wows me today with her knowledge in the kids and family area and I expect she will continue to do so in the months and years to come.

I love music, but my scope of knowledge and my scope of preference are two very different things. That's why my new discovery of Don & Mike has been invaluable. Rhapsody is having trouble keeping up with my demanding searches.

heatherhh
Another sweet, intelligent person whose opinions I often agree with and whose personality I've found easy to love. Heather's warmth and friendliness make her one of the most endearing people I've encountered on this site. But don't get me wrong - she's shrewd and critical when it comes to evaluating the products she reviews.

jev04again
Sunni lives up to her name beautifully. Her reviews are well-informed, but what makes me hang on each word is her extremely entertaining style. Laughter and tears hold hands throughout her work.

Favorite Members who make me think...

Lanny and I occupy extreme opposites of the bald eagle's wings. He's unafraid of ridicule and criticism (or at least he certainly appears to be), and his ideas are very different from my own. But they also make me slow down and think, ponder my faith and opinions. It's good to do that on a regular basis. Another thing I love about Lanny is that his viewpoints have never (as far as I've seen) tainted his ratings of others' work. He's fair and honest and commands respect.

sleeper54
To be honest, ...tom... falls in all three of my categories. He's elusive, wise, kind, honest and fair, and he spreads his wisdom seeds around in well-placed furrows all across the massive Epinions garden. His concern for others and commitment to our community make him one of my top-ranking hall of famers (which I suppose makes me a dolt for putting him all the way down here). He knows his expert way around a review, as well.

zenmachado
I hope you haven't stopped reading by now. Although I want so badly to add more, I'll stop with David. He makes me think because he issues written expressions of his soul without holding back. I love poetry but rarely get around to reading it. But David's work draws me back again and again. He awakens the emotions in me that sometimes I don't want to explore, but when I do I'm thankful for his unintentional meddling.

Give these folks a chance to wow you, too, and perhaps you’ll make some new friends or gain a greater appreciation of our diverse community.

God Bless,
Valetta
