I have owned this car for almost five months, and have experienced absolutely no mechanical problems. I hear people complaining about the reliability of this car, but with good maintenance it is actually very reliable. It was even recommended to me by a professional mechanic. He said that of the American built automobiles, the Chevy Cavalier is one of the rarest cars to visit his repair shop.
So far I have been very pleased with the way the car drives. It's a pretty good handler for its class. I have the 2.2L 120HP engine and it really delivers (even with a dirty air filter). The car is excellent at highway speeds, absolutely no wind noise!
I have the base model coupe, and I find the rear seats to be very comfortable, and practical due to the ability to fold for access to the trunk and more storage space. Speaking of the trunk, I find if very roomy. When I was shopping around for a vehicle, and comparing the Cavalier with other similar vehicles, I found that the trunk space was greater than most of its competitors.
The fuel mileage is exceptional, at 31 MPG on the highway, it's very fuel efficient.
My only complaint about this car is the excessive tire noise. It currently has BF Goodrich tires, maybe they are at fault. But regardless, the noise is consistent and annoying at times.
I highly recommend the Cavalier to anyone looking for a compact, reliable and affordable automobile.
