Nordic Track: My thoughts and treadmill recommendation
May 16 '06
The Bottom Line I think that Nordic Track makes a good quality product in general. I wouldn't hesitate considering a purchase from them.
Nordic Track is a subsidiary of the giant fitness company, Icon. Icon has gotten some very bad customer service reviews. However I continue to maintain that we more often than not read about the bad experiences rather than the good ones.
Nordic Track started out with their ski machines that worked with patented flywheels and cables. When ski machines became less popular the company ventured into low impact exercise machines and its line of elliptical machines.
In the late 1990s the company expanded with treadmills, strength machines, steppers, bikes, apparel and even jogging strollers.
You can buy their products in stores, catalogs, via television infomercials and online. NordicTrack Europe includes operations in Italy, the United Kingdom, France/Belgium and Germany. (adapted from www.nordictrack.com)
I rated their Nordic Track Futura 2600 Gym five stars.
Back in 2000 I reviewed the Nordic Track Pro Skier. I didnt like it but am in the minority.
I have used many Nordic Track machines that I havent reviewed so feel free to ask me if you have one youd like to see reviewed. I have spoken with customer service many times and found them helpful and pleasant. That is my experience. I am quite confident many have the opposite experience especially if something breaks or they need a piece that didnt come shipped with the machine.
I got the following letter from a reader and wanted to share it.
Hi
Thanks for all the info you have posted. I read your review from 2004 - do you still think the Cybex Pro is the best treadmill out there?
I Want to get a new treadmill (I own an older Landice model this works fine) that's really soft on the feet. Tried the Cybex at a spa and loved it.
Please give me your updated opinion. I also tried a True Treadmill at another spa in October and loved it as well. Are you familiar w/the True brand?
Thanks for all of your input

Hi Jo
I really am looking for something soft on the feet - when I was on the Cybex Pro and the True machines it felt so good to walk on - so price is not really an issue. Of course if a residential model was as soft as a commercial gym quality machine that would be great. Thanks for all of your input!!!

My response:
Hi: I am familiar with the True brand. They are not my favorite machine. You can get a decent one for a great price but if price isnt an issue it isnt the one I would choose. As of May, 2006 my favorite treadmill is my five star rated Nordic Track Incline Trainer. I reviewed the X10 but you can also get the X5. Super duper machine.
Nordic Track X10
Let me know if I can help further. jo
