FIVE STEPS TO SEXY, HEALTHY LOOKING FEET!

May 24 '06

The Bottom Line Most people think that feet are the ugliest part of the body. Prove them wrong. With minimal TLC, your feet can be irresistably sexy and kissable.

It is difficult to keep your feet looking pretty, especially if you are an outdoorsy type person like me. I am constantly in the garden, at the beach, by the pool and I wear open shoes in the spring and summer wherever I go. Leaving your feet open to the elements dries the skin and flip-flops and sandals promote calluses.

Even so, you can keep your feet healthy and pretty if you take care of them on a regular basis. Sure, regular pedicures are what we normally work into our schedule but they are not cheap and as a working mother, I hardly have time to spend two hours having one, unless I want to give up precious fun time on the weekend. Besides, pedicures concentrate on the nails, not the skin and if you have ugly, dry feet, not even pedicure is going to make them look pretty.

This last year, I have been trying different products to make up a foot care regimen I can perform myself at home. I still visit the pedicurist once a month to have my cuticles taken care of or if I decide to have French tips done but it hardly takes a big chunk of my time to do that. I have found that my regimen takes care of the condition of my feet and keeps them looking young, pretty and healthy looking.

There are five steps to my regimen which include:

1. Refreshing tired, sore feet
2. Deep cleansing
3. Exfoliation
4. Moisturizing
5. Deep conditioning

1. Tired, sore feet: I don’t care what anyone says, there is no better cure for tired or sore feet than a good soak. Yes, we must all look like yobos once in a while and sit back on a kitchen chair with our feet dangling in a bowl of soothing foot soak. Not the sexiest sight for a husband or boyfriend to behold, but it’s not his feet that are aching, is it? Epsom salts are good but there are lots of soaks out there made for the feet now and they contain even more relaxing ingredients.

2. Deep Cleansing: Of course I do keep my feet clean when I shower every day, but a deep cleansing gets my feet ready for a treatment so once a week, I apply a foot mask. This is essentially like a clay facemask and it lightly exfoliates as well as deeply cleans my feet. It is not meant to moisturize the skin and that is not what I am looking for in this product. It does, however, soften the skin in preparation for exfoliation.

3. Exfoliation: After the mask, I head for the shower and lightly use a pumice stone on the heels and balls of my feet first. If there are any calluses forming, this loosens and smoothes them out. Then I apply my foot exfoliant and with a soft foot brush working it in circular motions for a few moments on each foot. By now, the skin should be feeling renewed and smooth.

4. Moisturizing: After showering, I use a good, vitamin enriched foot moisturizer and work it in well, especially between the toes and on the heels and balls of the feet. By this time, my feet are super clean, refreshed, soothed, relaxed, renewed and if you can think of any other similar adjective, it’s there.

5. Deep Conditioning Twice a month, I like to deep condition my feet with a foot repair product. They usually have intense moisturizers that will keep the calluses away and give your feet some extra conditioning. I slather my feet with it and wear it over night with some socks on. The next morning, my feet feel like silk and look just as good.

This regimen really doesn’t take much time at all. The mask is a ten-minute affair. The exfoliating is done while you are showering and applying the cream takes two minutes. The deep conditioning is a matter of slathering on some lotion and putting on a pair of socks for the night. The soak is a welcome cure for tired, achy feet that I am sure is worth taking some time out for.

I can honestly tell you that my feet have never looked or felt better than they do now. Yes, I do have a thing about my feet and hands. I think that they show signs of aging way before the rest of your body. It’s inevitable, they are constantly abused. If you take better care of them, they will stay young looking and retain their suppleness instead of shriveling up into two large wrinkles.

On my hunt for the perfect product, I have found one line of foot products that has definitely performed with superiority to lots of others I have tried. These are the ones I use and recommend as being effective for this type of regimen. These products also come in packettes, which cost just under a dollar each, so that you can sample them first.

I invite you to try them. I did and I have the result I was looking for; soft but supple, pretty, young looking feet.
