Trying to set up a DID phone number in a Eastern European country is not without difficulty. When I first tried the service in February 2009, it didn't live up to my expectations. However, the posting of my original Epinion received the notice of the owners/ operators and helped them to improve their services. You can read their Epinion explaining the situation.
Since they went to the trouble explaining, I've removed some of my review. The service may work for you if you need to set up a phone number in other countries around the world.
What does Mydivert do? Mydivert is in the business of reselling and facilitating the use of phone numbers around the world. Redirecting phone calls in one location or country over voice over IP. Mydivert charges low fees and makes it possible for you to have a business or just a personal phone number in another country or state.
Details on establishing an account and telephone service To start up a MyDivert account you'll need to use Paypal to buy 10 Euro's of account credit. At the time, I think it cost me $13 and some change. But it will vary with the exchange rate which is trending lower and lower with the current leaders of our government trying despirately to destroy the dollar as fast as they can. But I digress. Once you fund your account with Paypal, you'll eventually be able to log into the site (I waited 1-2 days for them to send the password but maybe it's less now.) A simple interface is presenting with buttons for: Buying more account Credit, Account History, Account Info, Recent Calls, Call History, Detailed Call History, Phone numbers (that you are currently renting) Sip account settings, support, call rates etc. One may also set up call forwarding and voice-mail features. Most of this information comes from Didx.net but mydivert.com puts it together for their customers so they can buy a small number of phone numbers.
The phone numbers available through Mydivert are apparently not MyDiverts, they are just a reseller.
Buy / rent a small number of virtual phone numbers Mydivert is good for when you have a need to buy or rent a small number of phone numbers. Since buying wholesale using the didx.net website requires a $50 a month fee, regardless of the number of phone numbers one owns. Since you probably only need 1 or 2 numbers it makes sense to use a service like mydivert. To do so, one would fund their mydivert account using Paypal, then be able to buy one or more phone numbers a month at a time. Usage fees, per minute, are then deducted from your account balance. Paypal converts your US dollars to Euros.
Direct Inward Dialing My review of MyDivert.com's service wouldn't be complete without also explaining something about Direct Inward Dialing (DID). DID is used increasingly for VoIP communications. People around the world buy or rent these numbers for a time to have a phone line directed to them when they live half way around the world. Mydivert's service mainly piggybacks on other services and technologies to sell numbers to individuals or companies. By the look of things, they use open source Asterisk technology (developed in Alabama), some web programming and back-end database links to a website called DIDX.net to get most of their business and income generation.
I hope my review of myDivert.com is helpful to someone. If you have good luck with the service, please write an Epinion so others will know how the operators are doing.
