I'd also argue "Born on the 4th of July".

the lie at the end of the tunnel (Reply to this comment)

Very nice to see Fail-Safe on this list. It and Catch-22 are both rare and deft in being anti-war movies that avoid the high-action scenes of carnage that - a la Full Metal Jacket, alas - cast a pumped-up pro-violence message straight to the reptilian brain. (Did you know Patton was meant as an anti-war movie? Neither do all the soldiers who worship that film.)
I had no idea a Bright, Shining Lie had been turned into a movie. I'll need to check that out.
cheers,

A Farewell to Arms? (Reply to this comment)

Beyond how maudlin it is (and a sentence beginning with "Who"), I don't understand how this is an anti-war movie (or even a war movie, though set in a hospital for treating the war-wounded).
Or how "Catch 22" (which is unquestionably a farce about the military engaged in war) is "excellent." I thought it was disappointing, even though I had the bonus of enjoying seeing a beach that I used to go to throughout the movie.

I saw that Bright Shining Lie... EXCELLENT movie, even if lacked a bit in the cinematography... Great story though...

Although I would have included Dr. Strangelove, the greatest anti-war satire ever!
