The Bottom Line Good for games, bad for your delete key...more spam than has been manufactured by Hormel in 30 years

Okay, I know that websites need to make money...otherwise there would be no websites, and then what would we do for entertainment and news? Go back to reading books and newspapers? I think not.
However, Uproar.com goes WAY overboard with the spam. Whenever you sign up, you get put into some crazy advertising ring that will probably be the cause of your getting carpal tunnel syndrome, or at least exaserbating your current case of it. This is no joke...before signing up for Uproar, I would receive about 2 to 3 spams a day. Now, I hate spam, but 2 to 3 never really bothered me all that much. I have Earthlink, which gives you the Spaminator (to reduce junk e-mail), so that usually took care of the few messages that I got. Post Uproar.com, I am receiving between 25 and 60 junk e-mails per day...and that's AFTER I have used the filters on Outlook to find junk mail received from previous junk senders. And this junk mail comes from all over...from Miss Cleo (that annoying telephone psychic that you see on TV all the time) to Vermont Teddy Bears to some company called SFI Marketing, an obvious pyramid scheme which congratulates me for getting commissions from someone who sold something on my "Parent Powerline".
Uproar.com does warn you when you sign up that you will be put onto such lists, and I understood that when I signed up. I thought, however, that it was going to be a few...just a few more than I was already getting. It has become so frustrating and bothersome deleting all of these junk e-mails, and constantly adding them to my "junk senders list" (a lot of the companies change their sending addresses, so you have to constantly update them).
If you can get beyond the fact that you are going to spend more time deleting junk e-mail than you are playing games, Uproar.com probably wouldn't be too bad. Some of the games are very fun (the game show games especially -- they have Family Fued, Match Game, Name That Tune, and What's My Line), although you often have to sit through a few minutes of advertising before you can begin. And there are plenty of prizes that they do seem to award (I am assuming), some of which are downright nice (there was a man's Rolex watch at one point...hopefully it went to a real person and not the CEO of Uproar.com). How many times you can enter drawings is based on how much you play, and most prizes only let you do 9 entries at a time, so if you really like someting and want to enter it a lot, it can be a terrible pain. Oh, by the way, Uproar confirms you entry with (would you believe?) yet ANOTHER e-mail. More crap to delete.
In short, although the site is fairly good for games, it loses everything to the fact that it completely bogs down your inbox with crap. And just a word of advice to anyone who plans on joining it anyway..never, NEVER clik on the "remove me from this mailing list" -- all it does is confirms to the junk sender that your e-mail address is active. Which means they can send you even MORE junk.
There are plenty of other fun game sites out there that don't rely so whoring your name out to the highest bidder of crap e-mail. You may want to try Games.com, or even Shockwave.com for some other fun ways to waste time...wasting time plaing games, that is, rather than hitting the delete button in your e-mail box.
