Well, it literally pays to go with a reliable brand and to keep a car in good condition.
It's not often you can sell a car for more than you paid for it...

On another note, I finally got the call saying that the 3 had arrived (2 weeks turned out to be 3.5 weeks) and that I get to pick it up Friday. That probably means that I'll get a call to go to work on Saturday and not get a day off for a month...

Really very good stuff. You can even buy an $8 bottle of spray-on/wipe-off wax and put a quick shine on he car.

It's hard to believe that you sold a 1995 Tercel for C$5,400... good for you. Have fun with the '3!

There's nothing wrong with a bit of ranting - I enjoyed it. There was a new-ish car near my house that was for sale for at least two years with nothing more than For Sale sign in the back window. For people like that, trading in the vehicle probably wouldn't be such a bad idea...

I initially wrote this solely as a guide to selling a vehicle, but then discovered Epinions doesn't have a spot for those specifically. The first half of the review was somewhat of an afterthought, simply in an effort to find a decent place to stick the review.

I totally agree, trading in your vehicle isn't worth it and will only save you time, never money. I'm constantly surprised by the amount of 'nice' used cars ('98-'01 for example) which are put out for sale with no price, no model info, just an orange Ace Hardware for sale sign with a phone number. Not to mention the bobblehead on the dash, CD caddies on the visors, and ice scraper lying on the back seat.

Come on people, show a little initiative here! I'm not even going to bother if I have to call and ask how many miles it has, what size engine is under the hood, and much you want for your car. To me omitting those things just shows a lack of forethought that leads me to think they didn't take care of maintenance issues very well either.

Okay, rant mode off now. Great job on this guide, especially selling your used car. The best way to get a higher price is definitely to detail your car before you put it out for sale.

Thanks again and nice job on your Tercel sale,
