Aaron, I'm elated that you have finally been able to convince all those strangers that you are an independent human being. I hope you will be able to move to Richmond and even walk to school so that you won't have to fork out money in gas.

As I read your original message, I worried that it would end in a statement about withdrawing from school. I hope you will be able to get all the financial aid that is due you; the DOE should be rewarding the efforts of intelligent students like you, not stymying your growth.

Have you heard of the site called www.brokescholar.com ? You might want to try it and see if you qualify for any corporate or non-profit agencies' scholarships.

I hope to see you around campus this fall!

I hope college doesn't take twice as long to complete because of the situation, but you are right--it is better than the alternative of making little to nothing at work.

Thanks, Patti. You're always there to inspire and encourage. I appreciate it.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. It's not right and it's not fair. You are so bright and would be such a credit to this country as an example of what someone from such an adverse environment can achieve, if only they could see it.

My heart goes out to you - hang in there. I had to work full-time during the day and go to college at night. It took me almost twice the time to do it, but I got my degree. I know that's not a terrific option, but it's always something out there if the situation warrants it.

But see if there are any private loans or private scholorships that you could recieve to help you thorugh your college. As for the goverment I think people need to rely on them has little has possible. The people of new orleans can tell you what will happen when you trust your life to goverment agencys.

Everyone else is Bush-bashing? I only heard one comment on him.

Trust me when I say this editorial was not written with even a thought of our President. Even though I do disagree with what he does in the office, this independent student mess has absolutely nothing to do with him. It has more to do with the U.S. Department of Education's overly restrictive "policies" that detrimentally affect people who truly need help to get out on their own.

Aaron, I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles. It makes me really angry that Bush continues to give tax cuts to the rich while underfunding education. Don't give up on college!!

((hugs))
