Sprint greatly improved it's network.

Pros:Good coverage in So. Cal. Latest technology and best selection of phones.
Cons:Off network roaming can add up if out of the service area.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend Sprint for Orange County, LA and the Inland Empire as long as you're not one who needs to be calling customer service on a regular basis.

I've been a Sprint customer since late 1997 when they first came to the LA area. Back then the service was spotty but in the past two years all of the problems areas that I first encountered have been fixed. Some say customer service wait times have increased but for users like me that is not really a factor since I rarely have to call anyway. I do most everything easily online via their web site including activating a new phone when I wish to upgrade my existing phone at http://activate.sprintpcs.com. This even saves the normal $35 activation fee that is charged when going thru customer service and even gives a $10 service credit for activating online. Then I can give my old phone to a friend or family member and once they activate it we can both earn a $30 service credit. The one gripe I do have is that they won't let you qualify for most rebates if you're an existing customer and purchase a new phone. I have never been overcharged for anything like some have claimed and haven't encountered any billing problems in the 4 years that I've been a customer. I keep myself educated with Sprint and that also helps.

My current plan was offered in late 1999 which is $30/month for 300 anytime minutes with free long distance and first incoming minute free. This plan is month to month and no contract required for as long as I want to keep the plan.

Sprint also has the most digital coverage nationwide out of all the carriers including even Verizon. They currently cover over 85 percent of the US population with digital PCS. It would be nice if they can finally get Santa Barbara, CA up and running but the city has strict zoning regulations which are preventing that from going smoothly.

I also try to keep up with planned improvements in the LA area so if anyone is having trouble feel free to e-mail me and I'll try to check and see if Sprint has anything planned for your area.
