| barenthoffman's Full Review: Bosch 7/8" Rotary Hammer 11224VSR |
As a remodeler I have spend hours upon hours drilling holes in well-cured concrete for such things as adding steel reinforcing bar (rebar) for new additions, as well as drilling holes for structural tie-downs. I recently worked a job which required us to drill 2 dozen holes at 1" wide, 10 inches deep for Simpson HDA8A hold downs. I promptly blew up my Black&Decker rotary hammer. My replacement was a Bosch "bulldog" 11224VSR. The Bosch is rated at a maximum of 7/8" so the 1" bit I was using took a bit longer to cut through, but I was impressed that it did it at all. I'm not recommending that you buy this rotary hammer to drill 1" holes, but if you want to, hey... It will take it. this thing is TOUGH.
As far as demolition is concerned, unless it's pretty light-duty work, I would step up to the "bulldog's" Big brother. I've used the Bosch demolition hammers (10 & 13 AMP) and they cut through masonry like a hot knife through butter.
Bosch is a quality tool manufacturer. Don't even bother with the less expensive brands. You'll go through ten of those before your Bosch wears out.
