I have been a T-Mobile customer for about 6 years now, and I'm still very happy with their service. The biggest factor that T-Mobile has going for it is that it is the low cost provider of mobile phone service. When you compare on a minute to minute basis, T-Mobile is typically a bit cheaper than Verizon, Cingular, and Sprint. I have never found significant performance differences between the different mobile phone networks, with the exception of the old Sprint Network appearing to have a lot of dropped calls. The biggest factor in call quality is always going to be specific to your local area and I would strongly suggest returning a phone within the first 14 days if your signal quality is poor as most contracts allow. After that, if you travel internationally, T-Mobile and Cingular are the only companies that use GSM, which is the international standard for mobile phone networks. If you leave the US (and have a compatible phone) your phone will probably work (though calls are a bit expensive) when you are outside the US.
