Here is what I sent to Travelocity: I purchased a round trip ticket on Friday, July 31, and my Visa was immediately charged. I received an e-mail the following day, saying "flight not available". After fifteen minutes in a conference call with a Travelocity CSR and a Midwest Airline CSR, I was informed that the Midwest System is showing that this Northwest partner flight IS available, but for $800, not the $270 that we agreed to. I was told that a full refund is possible, but before agreeing to this I wanted to do some research into other options.
Today, August 2, the original flight I purchased is STILL being displayed on Travelocity for my original fare of $270. Thinking all this must be some sort of scam, I went directly to the Northwest Airline website and was able to purchase the exact same itinerary for $360. Travelocity's initial claim that this flight is "not available" is a weasely way of not honoring the commitment that was made in a contract in which money exchanged hands.
I then called Travelocity back and asked for the itinerary to be cancelled and for a full refund. I was put on hold (and by the way, your non-soothing music while on hold is so loud it hurts one's ears) and when the CSR returned, I was told that the Midwest Airline office (the same one I was speaking with a few minutes earlier) is closed on Sundays and that I would have to call back during my workday, tomorrow (Monday). After "checking with a supervisor" your CSR agreed to call me back within 48 hours with confirmation that the itinerary has been canceled.
A few minutes later, thinking of all the ways Travelocity could screw this pooch further, I called back again, to make sure that BOTH legs would be cancelled and refunded, and not just the one whose fare had increased . "Natasha" said no problem and that I would be e-mailed immediately with confirmation of the refund.
So, three calls, three different answers. Travelocity has a serious problem providing a quality product.
To compound the hassle and frustration of this colossal cluster-F, I am told that my Visa will be credited back within 30 days, so Travelocity is able to collect interest on my money for up to a month, while offering nothing in return, not even an attempt to find me another flight.
The public can no longer trust Travelocity to provide accurate information or to act as an honorable partner. Looks like we are back to dealing directly with the airlines, again. Perhaps that is a good thing, so the finger-pointing will stop, when problems arise.
