Go Buy A Dell!!
We bought this system last May 2001. It was purchased because many of friends have Gateway's and have had little or no problems with them. We got our system for a very good price ($1375) for the Computer, 19" Monitor, Epson 880 printer, a free Cable Modem, and a Class on Digital Music. The computer has a 20 GB Hard Drive, 32 mb Video Card, 128 mb RAM, DVD & CD/RW Drives, and Windows ME.
It started out to be a pretty good system, until we tried to install some of our own Software. It seems every time we install new software the computer totally freezes up, and something goes wrong. The first time it forgot where the sound card was, that took 4 hours on the phone w/ Tech Support to resolve. The next time it totally wiped out all our settings for our Cable Internet Service. That took 3 calls over 2 evenings and about 5 1/2 hrs to resolve. We have had to use the pre-installed software (Go-Back), which reverts your computer to an earlier time when things worked OK, at least 10 times!! I would think this type of stuff should not happen.
We have contacted Gateway on numerous occasions about our troubles with this system, and have been told that these problems are not out of the ordinary. If that is true about Gateway computers, I Do Not Recommend Gateway Computers!!!
Go buy a Dell, you will be much happier!!! Be sure to check out Dell's Re-Furbished Computers, there are some great buys!!
