JBD,
who liked Dick Tracy. I agree with all ratings, except, I would work SM I in there somewhere. I did enjoy Michael Keaton as Batman, too.
Dicy Tracy is a totally underrated film and I'm surprised it didn't fare better than it did. Spider-Man was a good movie but I think Spidey 2 was much more superior. That's usually a rare case with sequels. The more I watch Keaton's Batman, the cheesier it becomes for me. But it was definitely better from the rest of the crap that followed it... until Batman Begins, of course.

Beth,
...watched Superman (the 1978 film) for the first time in years, and you know, it's still wonderful. Reeve was terrific in the part.
It definitely is still a great film. Christopher Reeve really put his stamp on the Superman mythos and gave such a convincing performance. There isn't enoough that can be said about that.
I was amazed at how well the film has stood the test of time. Really glad to see it topping your list here!
Where else is Superman going to be on my list? :)
Thanks for reading and commenting. Much appreciated.

I know. I keep getting sidetracked.
And I didn't get my 2004 list done until like November or December of 2005. Hopefully I'll get this one done here before long.

The best from 2005. That's a daunting task. We're more the halfway through 2006. You better get a move on that list.

I don't know. Though I could see doing one on this sometime.
I still have to do my list on the best from 2005. I at least have a rough list for that..I have to try to..organize a bit..figure out what I want to say about each, see if I want to eliminate any of them.

Hmm..ok. Well that could work.
I have been wondering since I read a little about what was supposed to be going on if Joker would be the one to scar Dent.
Yeah, he's supposed to scar him in the third movie which sets up an interesting confrontation, if it happens like that.

I heard the opposite that they would bring her back and she would be teaming up with the Harvey Dent in bringing down the Joker. She might be killed in the process and Harvey becomes the new District Attorney. I think it's also the Joker who is going to scar Harvey and makes him into Two-Face.
Hmm..ok. Well that could work.

Ok..interesting information. Though everything I've heard didn't have Katie Holms returning. I heard just days after Batman Begins first came out that she wasn't offered the chance to return like the others were.

This is what I gathered so far concerning this subject:
"Batman Begin director Christopher Nolan will return to direct the sequel which will simply be called The Dark Knight. According to earlier reports, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman signed multiple picture contracts and will be returning for The Dark Knight as well as a possible third Bat-movie. Morgan Freeman and Katie Holmes are expected to return to their roles as well, although tabloid scuttlebutt has had Holmes retiring from film work, or not returning to Batman at least.
"Screenwriter David Goyer is expected to return as well, and has reportedly already written some 80 pages towards the sequel.
"A press release officially announcing Ledger and the title is expected tomorrow morning.
"Update 08/01/06: According to Variety, production on The Dark Knight will begin next year, for presumably a summer 2008 release, putting it in competition with Iron Man, and the next James Bond movie (both of which have already claimed teh first weekend fo May as their release dates).
"Additionally, the film will be written by Nolan's brother, Jonah, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan will produce."

Hmm..I hadn't heard that. Though Nolan used some original ideas in Batman Begins didn't he? So maybe it will be ok..just slightly...modifying some things perhaps.
I did read one thing that mentioned Harvey Dent being in the next one, working with Batman to catch Joker. So maybe Nolan is going to develop Dent more before turning him into Two-Face and build up the friendship with Batman and even Gordon first.
Well..I'll keep an open mind till I see the movie anyway. I wouldn't think it could be worse than Batman & Robin.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Hi (Reply to this comment)

I saw the news announcement on TV and my first thought was "Oh god, it's ruined." But I decided to keep an open mind about it. Ledger is a good actor so maybe he has something that we haven't discovered yet. The Joker should be around Batman's age anyway. He's not this old fart that was portrayed in Burton's Batman.
I've seen Ledger in a few movies and thought he was good in them. So I think it could work. I guess since Burton had the Joker being older, I just figured he was supposed to be that much older than Batman.
I also heard that Nolan's brother is writing the screenplay as well, using ideas from Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. I think that scares me more than anything so we'll have to see with that as well.

Don't know what I think of that yet. Though..could work. And I did read somewhere that Nolan wanted Joker to be closer in age to Bale.

Good points, especially with Zorro. I hadn't thought of that before.
Hmm..ok..now I'll have to watch Dick Tracey again.

El,
What an awesome list. I mean the best. Not a single movie I would change. This made me want to watch a couple again. Being the geek I am I've seen each at least 4 times. (I'll admit I've only see Dick Tracy the least of the list)
I just recently got Dick Tracy so I'll be watching that again in the near, near future.
Just saw Batman Begins 3 times over the past two weeks... and counting. We just love it.
Same here. Once I see it's on I just can't turn away from the screen.
Virginia mentioned The Tick. Man I love watching re-runs on Nick at Night. LOVE The TICK. Too bad there wasn't a movie. Wonder who would have played Arthur?
The Tick would be an awesome as a movie. I loved the animated show and totally miss it. Here's hoping someone will attempt to do something with it.

It was harder than I thought. I really had to think about #7-10.
Maybe I'll do one some day. Though it will take lots of thinking..especially since you opened this up to include Zorro.
Zorro is essentially Batman. After all who do you think was Batman's inspiration, especially with the who dual identity setup? Same with Dick Tracy. He may just be a cop but his villains are so twisted like Batman's as well. Plus, he uses some great gadgets.

You're a sentimentalist to list that number one, but I've no problems with that. Great fun. Saw The Incredibles and it was okay. I prefer the TV Batman and Robin. ;)

I never thought of Dick Tracey as a superhero. Guess I just thought of him as a cop. Though it has been ages since I saw that movie.
I didn't think of Zorro as a superhero either..though he did set out to help people.

Zorro was a comic book character? It originated as a book, didn't it? (Although we did have a scant few copies of Zorro comics when we were little.)
You are correct. It was first a book but got serialized in pulp magazines after that in 1919. He also appeared in many comic books from 1949 onward. I always think of Zorro, Tarzan, Flash Gordon, Dick Tracy, and the like to be the precursor to what is known as "comic books" now. It's still all great fun.
