The Bottom Line Always ask if your desired items are in stock and be sure to ask for sizing if you don't want to have to return things.

Last winter I gave in to my desire to repopulate my wardrobe and browsed through the Chadwick's of Boston catalog for some end-of-season bargains. I was familiar with Chadwick's clothing, since one of my good friends from work swore by them for her work clothes. She always looked nice and very professional, yet not extravagant or overdone.
So I picked out about six items from the catalog, wrote out my list of item numbers and page numbers (in case the order taker asked me for them), and placed a call to the 800 number to place the order. The order taker was very pleasant, and took the time to answer my sizing questions as well as to describe the items in more detail. I always take the time to ask the order takers about chest, hip, inseam and other measurements, since no manufacturer's sizing is exactly the same as another's. I placed my order and waited for the clothing to arrive.
Four of the six items arrived within a week of my placing the order. There was a notation on the packing slip that told me that 2 of the items were on back order with an estimated shipping date. That satisfied me, for the time being. However, when that date came and went, I called Chadwick's customer service to inquire. Here's where the fun began!
The customer service person told me that the items were still on back order and gave me yet another set of dates when I could expect the items. By this time, the snow had melted and the need for these winter items had long passed, but I let it ride. The items I ordered were still pictured in all of the Chadwick's catalogs, so I figured they would eventually become available.....wrong!
In the middle of summer, I received a postcard from Chadwick's informing me that the items were still on back order. I promptly called the customer service number listed on the postcard and cancelled these 2 items.
So, a word of warning - always ask if your desired items are in stock before you agree to place the order, or you'll be waiting a long time!
