Opinion Summary
Warning: Nausea-inducing jerky camera throughout
by pianofan | Aug 15 '09
Pros: Don't know - too nauseated to stay.
Cons: Nausea-inducing camera-work on the same level as "Cloverfield."  Avoid this movie if you're susceptible.

I agree with pianofan, I personally feel assaulted by this type of camera work. I loved the Bourne movies but when they started that I had to close my eyes each time and have my husband tell me when it was over, what a waste and irritation.

We didn't see Cloverfield because of that and I really wanted to, but it wasn't worth feeling nauseated over, nothing worse than nausea, especially unnecessarily, and it lingers on all day.

My 16 yo daughter and her friend left an hour into District 9 because of it because she said she was so close to throwing up she couldn't stand it any longer, and had to go home and lay down.

In 10 years (or less) this is going to be a big joke "remember back in the early 2000's that amateur hour shakey camera work? omg, can you believe people put up with it? what were they thinking?"

Yes they need to post something, a warning, because not only does it make me sick, it p*sses me off

You tell me how to pressure theaters (or movie distributors, for that matter) to post a warning about nausea-producing hand-held camerawork in a movie. My guess is that 20% of theater-goers have a problem with this (about the same percentage who are susceptible to seasickness).

When I end up in one of these movies, my entire day is blown. It doesn't cause me just an unpleasant hour or two of dizziness - I feel like I have a full-on case of flu until I can finally get some sleep.

I can't write a review about a movie whose camera-work made me go home and vomit for an hour??? Says who?

Likewise. You can't offer an opinion on a movie you only saw 20 minutes of.

Since you didn't see the whole film, I can't in good conscience give you a "show" rating. It's of no concern to me that you've got a problem sitting through a film done in a documentary style. Don't give the film 1-star for that reason.
