Boost comments, customer service and phones (Reply to this comment)
by rbwalton
So far, I am mixed as far as how I feel about Boost in general.
The phone choice could be better, and hopefully, it will improve. I think the sound quality is better than my prior provider. The blue tooth connection to my car is a bit more stable than my prior phone. Customer service, I am a bit confused about. More about why that is later. . .
First, the phone- I got the Motorola i776 because I prefer a flip phone, and have had no problem with Motorola phones in the past. This one, it is true, is a bit more basic than my last phone, but it works just as well. It was important to have Bluetooth since we have hands free driving laws now. It was not so important to have a video camera as my last phone had. I never used the video camera on that one. The i776 has a camera, but a very basic one. If taking great pictures is of interest to you, get a better phone, or just use that camera you left at home. If you think a phone has to have a great camera this camera will not please you.
With my prior ATT phone and plan, I never got into texting much, because it cost extra with ATT and Cingular before that, and ATT before that. With Boost Mobile, unlimited texting is included on my unlimited monthly plan. I did have some problems with receiving some text messages promptly- two were over 24 hours late- but a relatively quick call to customer service seems to have cleared that up. They reset the texting portion of my profile- or something like that. It was a bit hard to understand the customer service person; not because of his accent, but because the overall sound quality of the line we had was not very good. He said he had difficulty hearing me also.
The unlimited monthly plan also has unlimited internet, and walkie-talkie, GPS for program use that has an extra cost, and other things I have not discovered yet. One extra that will be of use is that the power connector is USB compatible, so you can plug phone into a computer to carge or to download GPS data to computer programs, or to use the phone as a modem.
Customer Service and web generated text messages, have left me a bit perplexed. I made a separate call to customer service and asked about why I had not been able to send a test text message from a weather warning website I already use to my phone as I had been able to do with ATT. I was told by that representative, that the unlimited texting of my plan only included text messages from other telephone users, and that for the service I was asking about, there would be a per use charge. She then went on to say that my service would also include a monthly service charge on top of the per-use charge. I decided not to make that change.
Thinking about this, it occurred to me that she may have been trying to warn me that the website I had mentioned had a monthly fee and that this was the monthly fee that she was referring to. I was set to call them again to verify this, when suddenly- you should be able to guess this- Suddenly, I heard my phone beeping to say it had text messages from a website. I thought maybe it was Boost thanking me for my business and hoping my customer service experience had gone smoothly. But, it was not. It was the second and third tries at sending a test message from this weather warning site that I had initiated prior to making my call to customer service. Evidently, I had not heard the first message come through. So, all three test messages finally had made it. What now? I went into my Boost account on the website, (which I agree is simple to use) and checked my account activity, expecting to see a per-use charge for the three test messages. They were listed, but there was not a charge associated with them. Then, I wanted to run another test to see if there was any delay in sending the message from the website to my phone. It would not do much good to hear about a tornado warning after it had already touched down in your area. I clicked to send test message, and within one minute, the message had gotten to my phone. And, checking the charges on my Boost account pages, it still showed as no-charge for this message.
This is what is confusing. Either they have great customer service because they went ahead and set this up after realizing they had given me bad information, or this is just a fluke and when it really counts, I will not get the intended text messages warning me of impending doom.
