The most important thing is to educate yourself on any medication you are taking. And listen to your body.

I know this was posted a few years ago. I was just wondering if your still around. I have Fibromyalgia and it would be great to talk to someone else who has it. If your still around please email me. Thanks!

My findings with Ultram (Reply to this comment)
by octailgate
I had a work related injury that required 3 different shoulder surgeries in a 1 year span. I was prescribed percocet at first but after I was taking to much of it everyday to just be able to function I found myself running out of medication and not being able to get refills for upto a week at a time.I then started going to other doctors and E.R. rooms just for prescriptions to get me through to my next refill with primary dr and filling them at other pharmacies with cash. Lets just say I came dependent on the percocet to function without having any withdrawls. I then started having my doctors office call in scripts for vicodin instead of driving down to pick up the script for the percocet. I was taking 6-12 of the 5mg which wasnt seeming to do the trick so I was given the 7.5mg pills. I was doing the same thing going to other doctors and E.R. rooms just get me to the other refill.

I was then told by my dr that I was going to be weened off the meds to see my actual pain level. He was thinking that it was my brain sending bad signals to get more of the opiate. I went along with this as best I could and when I was at point of no more refills and no more insurance to goto another dr I started my withdrawls. They were bad, usual stuff one goes through. After the first week I began to fill better and all the withdrawl symptoms went away around 3-4 weeks. I then had a another surgery to repair a implant in my shoulder which I wasnt happy about because I knew the medicine was gonna be flowing again. In the recovery room after the surgery I was given a couple shots of pain meds which didnt do much. All the opiates I was taking before had made my tolerance very high. I kept telling the nurse that I was still in pain and even she didnt want to give me anymore cause I had been given to much already. I was weened off the meds once again.

Which brings me to now with the Ultram. I will pretty much have chronic pain in my shoulder/arm for the rest of my life and I didnt want to take any opiates due to the track record I had and the withdrawls. My dr then prescribed me Tramadol 50mg since he said it wasnt addictive. I have been on it for over 2 yrs now. I was at one time taking 8 50mg pills and 2-4 100-200mg (upto 1200mgs a day) Ultram ER pills a day. I was taking blood tests every month to make sure my organs werent tanking since the sheer amount I was taking daily was extreme. I have now weened down to 2-4 100mg pills a day. In the last week I have been taking 4-8 pills a day and have found myself in the same situation of no pills and withdrawls. Ultram does give u withdrawls, not as bad as opiates but close. I have had flu/cold like symptoms and very bad back pain. I am very restless and and just waiting for the next day to pass so I can pick up my refill. In closing Ultram does do the job very well, just dont think its any different from the regular opiate medicine since the withdrawls and near the same and the whole concept is the same. Take what works for you and dont abuse it.

Very well... (Reply to this comment)

written piece. If I weren't suffering from an extreme case of laziness 90 percent of the time... I would write something similar on this subject.

Ahhh, but Laziness wins everytime :)

I wrote a giant whine fest a couple years ago called "Back among the living.... living with Fibromyalgia" I've kept it in draft for over a year as I felt it sounded too close to whining.

I re-posted it today if you want to check it out.

I'm no stranger to chronic pain, migraines and a heart issue. I hope the doctors find some sort of answer for you as I know how that feels. To be young and have something seriously wrong and not know.

Feeling like your legs are too heavy to lift, or a can is lined with lead.... It's scary when you don't have an answer. I can relate to what you've written on so many levels.

I'm off of all pain medication and have switched to alternatives. For now it is working. THIS didn't occur until 2 years of absolute hell. But as soon as I could I got off the heavy stuff.

If you ever want someone to talk to feel free to email me anytime. I have a couple friends in the same boat as me. I've learned that sometimes just being able to talk to someone who doesn't view things in a negative way is helpful.

Just know you're not alone.
