Sometimes, it is best that we share our thoughts and memories out loud. You have written a very beautiful tribute to this lady who loved you. Thanks for sharing.

Spuds,

Joe likes raw potatoes as well- is it a guy thing?!?

Anyhow, thank you always for reading my work, and for the encouragement to keep writing!

Thank you Kath! And I think, even if they move on before they are old enough to really remember you, that they will at least feel that they came from a place where they were loved and they were happy, and I think that is a very important accomplishment.

Well, I would say it is 89% true....but I wanted to be able to go where I wanted with it, so I listed it as fiction.

Glad you liked it :)

A very moving piece. I am sure that Nanny is looking down and smiling at you. Thanks for sharing such a touching, personal memory. Awesome!

I notice that it's published under "Family Fiction". So, I guess this is really a fictional piece?

....tears to my eyes. How wise you are for recognizing how important you were to her.

One of the saddest things about caring for children is the reality that they won't remember me. I do however remember each one of them and have loved them all in their own special ways.

You were very important in her life...I'll bet that day was a wonderful one for her. It's great that she wasn't alone for Christmas.

Thank you so much for writing this...from the child's perspective....make it a great day....kath

this, Hap. Powerful and deep. Touching but not overdone or saccharine. I'm always impressed and awed by your talents.

It even triggered some nostalgic memories of my own, those day long overland trips snacking on raw spuds in the Conestoga. Those were the days.
