The Bottom Line These are all films about Strangers in a strange land.

Alien movies! I will assume that we mean those from outer space, so I won't put Gerard Depardieu and Andy McDowell in Green Card on my list. However, I was in a Top Ten Kinda Mood today, so here is my list of my favorite films about Aliens!

10. Liquid Sky (1982 directed by Slava Tsukerman). This one is truly a cult film, and a strange film that I saw in Boston back when I was in high school. Here, the aliens landed in a small flying saucer and sought the chemical substance that peoples brains emit when they are at the height of euphoria. A very strange little film.

9. Earth Girls are Easy (1989 directed by Julien Temple) Turns out that aliens are really just sex starved fuzzy creatures who look a lot like Jeff Goldblum and Jim Carrey. All they really want is to score wih the likes of Julie Brown and Geena Davis! Yup one of my favorite alien films is a pretty funny comedy.

8.Men in Black (1997 directed by Barry Sonnenfeld) Alright, I just found that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were a riot in this comedy action adventure! It was a fun filled film and the aliens were very creative.

7. Predator (1987 directed by John McTiernan) Yes, even Arnold gets to be in a pretty interesting alien film. (actually he has done pretty well with sci fi). In Predator, earth is nothing more than a forest to hunt in. The Predator is from an advanced race that views earth as a place to hunt in, and create a pretty exciting sci fi action thriller. Governors Arnold Scharzenegger (California) and Jesse Ventura (Minnesota) star.

6. Mars Attacks (1996 directed by Tim Burton) I enjoyed this spoof of 1950s sci fi invasion movies! Everyone, and I mean everyone was in this movie; Jack Nicholson, Jack Black, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny Devito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman, Michael J. Fox, Rod Steiger, even Tom Jones! aaack aaaak

5. The Astronauts Wife (1999 directed by Rand Ravich) Johnny Depp is Commander Spencer Armacost. When he and Captain Streck go on a routine shuttle mission they encounter something alien, or do they? Armacosts wife Jillian (Charlize Theron) feels that her husband is somehow different since his return home. He stares off a lot, and listens to static on the radio. Is he truly still her husband? Depp and Theron both deliver great performances here.

4. Dark City (1998 directed by Alex Proyas) This creepy horror sci fi was also a cool film noir! Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) tries to figure out why he is wanted for murder and why he can't remember how to get to Shell Beach. Mysterious Strangers rearrange the city and its inhabitants every night at midnight. What is going on in Dark City? If you like sci fi, horror, film noir, and Jennifer Connelly, this film will satisfy your craving for all.

3. The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976 directed by Nicolas Roeg.) David Bowie plays Thomas Jerome Newton, a man from a planet running out of water. He comes to earth with a few revolutionary inventions so that he can finance bringing water to his own planet and save his family and his planet. In the process of adapting to Earth, he falls prey to those who wish to examine him and common vices. A sad poignant film.

2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968 directed by Stanley Kubrick) The most interesting part of this film is that we never truly get to meet the aliens, yet... we know they were here. Who put that black monolith on the earth? Who put the other black monolith on a moon of Jupiter? Someone is watching us, has been watching us since the dawn of mankind, shaping us, molding us.... for what?

1. Alien (1979 directed by Ridley Scott.) I never was an E.T. kinda guy. This sci fi classic showed that what awaited us out in space may not be the friendly sort of alien at all, but a ruthless killing machine that eats to live and lives to eat. Aliens is really an action movie, but the first Alien was truly sci fi horror about mans most unpleasant meeting with an alien life form. Set designs and alien design inspiration by H.R.Giger guaranteed that this film would capture a truly alien look.

Left off the list on purpose: Independence Day, Species, Starship Troopers, Signs, any of the classics like The Day the Earth Stood Still or Forbidden Planet (save those for a separate list), any Star Trek or Star Wars movie or the big Spielberg Pics Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. Don't get me wrong, I liked them, just not enough to put on my top ten list about aliens. Moreover Star Wars doesn't really count, cause its filmed in THEIR universe, not ours.
