A Majestic Production (Reply to this comment)
by LEDOMAINE
The Peabody is not exactly new to those of us in this region of the U.S. I seem to remember a movie that, if it's setting was not actually The Peabody, it was modeled after that landmark hotel. However, like the Fairmont and Melrose hotels, we tend to consign their histories and grander days to our pasts, never stopping to think about the royalty, the celebrity, the legends who 'stopped by to partake of her hospitality' over the years. Nor do we pause to consider the persona of the hotel herself in present day.

Your review is a work of art, Pam. What it does is MAKE us consider what we've somehow forgotten and wrapped away in the tissue papers of the past. You've said, "hey, remember the Grand Lady, The Peabody. And, never underestimate her continued elegance and grandeur. She reigns on!"

Magnificent review (& of course, extremely thorough). It's more than a review. It's a mini-guide to and expose on a thriving hotel with tradition and all the stuff of which dreams are made up, especially at this time of the year, but seemingly will last through our lifetimes and beyond.

Thanks, Pam, and take care,

Rouchelle

We lived just across the river in Arkansas for 3 years so Memphis was my weekend haven! I loved the Peabody and all of its history. You've done a super job of bringing it all back to me! Thanks!

Thank you, Virginia.
You are certainly welcome to visit the ducks -- guest or not!

And,furthermore, I better not hear of you visiting Memphis without letting me know ahead of time. I would love to meet you and Jude.

I can't think of a better meeting spot than The Peabody lobby.

Take care,
Pam

What a delightful review (Reply to this comment)

of a delightful place to stay. Jude and I are sort of planning a trip to Tennessee in the spring, and if we make it as far as Memphis, I want to stay in the Peabody. Do they let you in the lobby just to watch the ducks if we don't stay there? Sounds like a lot of fun.

I went to the Peabody when I was in Memphis on business. Those ducks were so cool; actually quite a quack-up. Oh, sorry.

Thanks, Lisa.
Sounds like we might well have crossed paths. The Hampton looked good from the outside. I meant to duck inside and take a look, but got distracted and never headed back in that direction.

I visited Sun Studios several years ago with a group of customers who were in town. I found it very interesting. It was amazing all the records that could come out of that very small building!

Take care,
Pam

I was in Memphis Friday night/Saturday for my husband's birthday too! We contemplated going in to see the ducks (it was only around 10, though) so we opted for Sun Records instead. We stayed at the Hampton at Peabody Place and were very pleased. Had a great time at Jillian's and Alfred's too. Haven't stayed at the Peabody as of yet.. can't wait to, though. Wonderful review! Best wishes from Arkansas.. -Lisa

Too funny! The one thing I deleted, because my review was getting soooo long, was about the Ole Miss pep rallies we had there.

We'll have to compare notes sometime.

I used to spend way too much time at the Peabody when I was in my freshman year at Ole Miss. I later transferred to LSU, and have not seen the place since. Loved your review. Tom Barnes
