Thanks.
Bujold is probably the most character-driven SF author I've read. OSC is certainly character-driven, but he's also very idea-oriented, which is the orientation of most good SF. Bujold's characters are refreshing in the genre.

Funny you should say that, I've been mulling over a dissertation topic in my head lately as I begin considering a PhD. The question is whether they'll take it seriously. I'm using Shelley and Darwin as a springboard, so my hopes are high.

In Brothers in Arms I actually found myself getting tired of Miles. We'll see if Mirror Dance cures me of that. It's so far succeeded in making Mark much more interesting.

An excellent summary! (Reply to this comment)

The Vor novels have earned a permanent spot on my bookshelves, and I await the release of anything by Bujold with great anticipation -- she has pretty much ruined most of the science fiction genre for me. I'll be looking forward to your views on the recent novels. -- Telynor

The Vorkosigan saga... (Reply to this comment)

...is my all-time favourite sci-fi series, and Miles my favourite male character. Love the themes and especially the quotes. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
