Although much of this information is very useful I will have to disagree with the opinions on extra firm mattresses. The need for a firm or extra firm mattress is not an irrational one. Some people, including myself, require extra support. Without that support there can be extreme pain and long term damage.
Do not base your purchase on the "irrational" view of what someone else considers normal.

Thanks for your thorough review. After doing some research on the web and reading other mindless reviews, I found this one to be informative and straight forward. You confirmed my original hunch on which company to choose from and what factors dictate good quality. I appreciate the time and effort you took to write this and found it quite helpful.

I did a review of matresses about 4-5 years ago, and just came back for a refresher, as we are making another purchase. The general information jibes quite will with what I read in the past with several of the consumer groups. I can't vouch for the details on each of the big "S" companies howevever. I appreciate the written summary, thank you for the amount of time put in this.
