The Bottom Line Dragons are easy to please, really!
This is an entry into the My Top Five Guilty Pleasures Write-Off hosted by Army_Girl21. Check out her entry for rules and regulations. Dragons, as a whole, are remarkably easy to please, a comfy place to veg out in, ample quantities of high-quality delicious food, and presents, lots of presents . However, if I have to narrow it down to only five particularly delightful albeit slightly embarrassing pleasures, they would have to be, in no particular order: From the food category, while this Dragon revels in haute cuisine prepared by her very own talons or that of a few select friends, she also is known to succumb to snacking on freshly sliced white American cheese, preferably Land-O-Lakes brand. It must be freshly sliced from the deli, none of that nasty plasticy individually wrapped garbage will ever suffice and it is eaten in tiny bites, one slice at a time, all alone. No bread, no meat, no lettuce. Normally the cheeses of choice are well-aged brie or stilton or St. Andre or home made mozzarella, cheve, or collumiers. But when the urge for junk food hits, only white American cheese will do. When it comes to a refreshing nap, the pillows and comforter must be filled with down, goose down is acceptable, eider is much better. And only a thick layer of memory foam over the mattress will do the trick. In The Weyr, this is de rigure of course but traveling does present one with certain difficulties. This is why we have Space Bags to carry along our special bedding wherever we go . Swamps, marshes, bogs, tarns, damp meadows, all of these hold boundless delights for moi. We have been known to travel miles out of our way to visit a particularly enticing wetland and think nothing of dallying for hours, even days, within its environs. If an interesting rock formation is included so much the better! In fact, rock formations can suffice entirely in deserty areas as long as they are equipped with a full compliment of fascinating inhabitants. Plants, especially flowering ones, are way up there too. It is a rare visit to Lowes or Home Depot, or Florida, which does not result in the acquisition of at least one new orchid or other interesting bit of flora. Failing a new tropical to grace the Weyr orchidarium a shrub, tree, or perennial will do equally well. Dragons despise grass except when enclosed by pasture fencing and utilized by horses for food. Therefore it is our goal to replace all of it with plantings. Then there would have to be antique browsing. One never knows when one will stumble across a formerly owned item, lost through the vagaries of time, war, and forgetfulness. When one is as old as dirt, it is easy to misplace items along the centuries. Why only a few months ago a long-forgotten buried hoard of Greek coins was unearthed in what used to be called Ur and required some fancy scrambling through various agents to reacquire! So, there you have it, a scant five Draconic guilty pleasures, although the list is actually much longer and could fill several volumes. Thanks to Army _Girl21 for suggesting the topic.
