Crackers. How can someone mess up crackers? Sure there are some I like better than others; Ritz not Sunshine or Keebler for me. But seriously, a cracker is pretty much a cracker. Good for upset stomachs, to hold cheese or spreads, or just to snack on. I have finally met a cracker that I didn't like; in fact no one in my house likes Hol Grain Brown Rice Crackers. What You Get The 4.5 oz box contains 56 crackers; two cardboard sleeves wrapped in plastic. Each cracker is approximately 1 1/2" X 3" and very thin. The only ingredients are brown rice and salt. A serving of 7 crackers contains 60 calories, 0g fat, 13g carbohydrates (0g fiber, 0g sugar) and 1g protein. They are fat free, cholesterol free, and Kosher. Paper? Wood? Styrofoam? I want to know who thought these crackers were good enough to sell, and who buys enough of them for Conrad Rice Mill to continue to manufacture them? It isn't that the taste is really awful; it can probably best be described as slight burnt popcorn, which is easily covered up with a dip or other toppings. It is the texture that has bothered everyone in my house. Six thought they were paper, Seven claimed wood, I think they are more like Styrofoam. They are slightly flexible and have a very dry but chewy texture. Dip them into salsa or hummus and you are sure to snap the cracker in half. While they do a good job bringing the tasty stuff to your mouth, the texture ruins the whole experience. The dry bits of cracker stick to your teeth long after you have enjoyed the topper. Crackers should be crisp, not flexible. Final Thoughts Eat the box instead. Hol Grain Brown Rice Crackers are awful. I've certainly tasted better, but our biggest complaint is that the mouth feel is just all wrong for a cracker. Perhaps Hol Grain Brown Rice Crackers are the best whole grain, gluten free crackers out there. If so, learn to live without crackers. A Final Epinions Thought Why do I still write for Epinions after nearly 6 years? Because I can write a review on the world's worst crackers, the best stroller, the loudest toy or the ugliest car seat, whatever strikes my fancy at the moment, and someone, somewhere will read it. And maybe I've helped a consumer or two.
