beckytcy's Full Review: Panasonic MC-3920 Bagged Canister Vacuum
I bought this vacuum two years ago from Amazon.com because it got decent reviews. I lived in a small-ish apartment at the time with two roommates and mainly hardwood floors, so it seemed like a good choice. Since I don't have kids or pets, I didn't need it to be perfect, and I didn't want to invest a lot of money in a high-end vacuum.
Well, you get what you pay for. The Panasonic MC-3920 was certainly cheap (around $60 at the time; it is now around $80), and it's small, lightweight, and quiet. The light blue color is also appealing and makes cleaning a little more fun.
As a canister vacuum, it uses bags, which I think is cleaner than having to empty the chamber into a trash bag. The bags are easy to change, but they fill up rather quickly because they are significantly smaller than standard vacuum bags. Luckily, replacement bags are pretty cheap through Amazon, $7.99 for a pack of five.
The vacuum comes with two attachments, one for larger areas of floor and one for corners or other small surfaces. It's very convenient for vacuuming under beds and couches. The hoses are very easy to take apart, and the whole thing is very light. So cleaning never feels like a chore because you aren't lugging it up and down stairs. It's very convenient to carry around with the carrying handle, and the hose is long enough to reach hard-to-reach places. However, the hose is someone inflexible, so it takes up a bit of space when you are storing it on the closet.
The biggest con, however, is that the Panasonic MC-3920 is simply not powerful enough to clean rugs. It's a good substitute for sweeping, but if you have rugs or carpeting, you will need another vacuum in addition to this one. If you run it over a rug, it will not suck up the dirt. So, I mainly use this vacuum in the bathroom and kitchen before mopping.
One other con is that I think the power cord is too short. I have to keep unplugging it as I go from room to room (and my new place is small!).
Specs: The vacuum has a 11-amp motor and weighs 11 pounds.
Conclusion: This vacuum is a decent choice if you have hardwood floors and want something for quick, cursory cleaning, but don't expect it to be your only cleaning implement. And definitely don't buy it if your place is carpeted.
