SB- Not That Bad (Reply to this comment)

I've been using Soundblaster cards forever. They give the sharpest, clearest sound I've heard from any soundcard. My brother was a big fan of Monster soundcards until he heard my pc. I always do research before purchasing any component for my computer (cnet.com or zdnet.com). I always look at the manufacturers website for issues with either my motherboard, processor or software. I recently upgraded from Soundblaster Live Platinum to the Audigy Platinum and again no problems using WinXP and the drivers included. I even upgraded my speakers to the Creative 5.1 and the difference is amazing. My advise is before putting down big bucks for a pc component-research it first to see if others have had any problems which have been addressed.

All of Creative's sound card products of the last four years have serious issues with VIA chipsets and very poor driver support, especially for the new Windows XP operating system.

If you need a sound card with a full feature set, avoid this and the Audigy and opt for the Game Theatre XP or the Santa Cruz instead. The driver support is much better and it works with ALL chipsets, not just Intel's.

I don't want to lose AC-3. (Reply to this comment)

You've got me worried. Can you tell me more about the Directx-8 install disabling AC-3. Is this a known issue, or did it just happen to you? And where would I come across the VIA chipsets? Is this a motherboard thing, or a graphics card thing?
