Oh I understand. I lived there for about 9 years, riding almost every day (that was where I learned about the "nice lady in the Lincoln" making a left turn in front of you). It's all about avoidance of risk.
But it's hard to beat the Blue Ridge Parkway on a motorcycle!

I've actually been forcing myself so hard to stay away from motorcyles, but I'm now just waiting for the extra life insurance policy. Riding around the D.C. area on a bike, is nothing short of an adventure!

You ought to consider stopping in some time. If it looks that good on the outside it might be enjoyable on the inside! Who knows, there could even be a Buell or Harley just waiting for you!

Nicely done again! I enjoyed reading this, and I've been tinkering with the idea of purchasing a motorcycle. Although I'm in love with the BMW line, I'll probably be purchasing a Buell or Harley.
One of my former teachers had a BMW bike, and he could not kill it. With routine maintenance, he drove it all over the country countless times, without a major mechanical problem. Thanks for sharing aspects of BMW ownership, and giving a realistic grocery chart list of costs.
